Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Free COBRA

With the new subsidies COBRA went from cheap to free. Not a bad deal. We are loving the medical care. Such a deal!

There is no difference between EO8 and left standing externally (for Cobra or UI). In both cases you were laid off. I was EOI and now pay $0/mo healthcare. Less than I paid at Chevron while working!!

I was told by Cobra HR that the subsidies were for those left standing and not EOI. That’s why it didn’t show up when I logged in to the site. HR recommended filing an appeal, which I did. Now I am waiting to hear back.

@2xpi+1bGn2hN1, except that you are confused, the fire department was not the topic. Nor was police, etc,. that no one has a dispute with. You wanting others to pay for your private obligations and personal needs that don't benefit anyone but you is. Try to keep up, lol!

Good point, it's always good when companies make a deal with the predatory IRS so that they can pass some tax-savings on to their consumers. Companies paying lower taxes always benefit the middle class "average joe" consumers . The upper class, don't care, ether way. the lower class people who pay no taxes should not mind either. why should they mind about lower taxes, for others, they pay none to begin with, lol.

Heaven forbid the government help normal people instead of giving corporate handouts on the back of taxpayers like so many companies have gotten over the years. Its terrible people having affordable Healthcare after being laid off at no fault of their own.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Someone pays for it now, then it boomerangs back to everyone. Ponder that for a moment.

Under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA), which was signed into law by President Biden on March 11, 2021, certain individuals who lost group health plan coverage due to an involuntary termination of employment or reduction in hours may be eligible to receive a 100% COBRA premium subsidy.

This is not the generous Chevron subsidy, but a new government subsidy which drives the cost to zero! You should have r3ceived a letter from Chevron Cobra and returned it by now.

The COBRA subsidy is just sugar-coated candy. If it can pay the bills until you turn Medicare age, great! If it doesn't, then you better find a new job with employer-sponsored insurance, otherwise your choice is ACA.
