Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Unions inevitable if global continues this way.

Heard some guys down at lunch lasy week talking about plans for unionizing due to poor compensation as their list of duties continues to increase. Today i was up in the offices and overheard chatter in cubicles about how more and more employees are willing to strike if the company continues to sc--w over the employees.

Power to the people.

I’ll strike as soon as someone tells me the time.

With IPO approaching it’s the time for bargaining now! Equity grants to top executives reach 1% of the IPO value (that’s 1% of the $30B if one could trust GloFo PR); on the other (our) hand – 2% raise during 5% inflation – how could it get any worse than that?

If we, say, wanted to organize. How would one go about doing it? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Good luck! I think fewer people will strike than you think. There are tons of people that know they are mediocre and overpaid, so they aren't going to rock the boat. They're the ones who've had the same title for 5+ years and are nobody's go-to person for anything other than menial stuff.

In the battery of trainings managers receive, part of it is how to handle discussions about unions. Basically they're supposed to report it to legal right away. They (corp GF) also continually monitor the "climate" and other unions in the surrounding area. Another tidbit from that training was how they dealt with people talking about unions in the past. Apparently they talked out their grievances, but I'm not sure if only those individuals benefitted or larger groups of people did. This info is like 4-5 years old.
