$300 New hire sign on bonus

Hmmmm.....see they're doing this now.

How'd the recent chainwide hiring day go?

Reading comments on a store the size of Southpointe, Durham, having just two registers is beyond belief.

@hcl Retail today is part time, unskilled labor, with open availability and no benefits.

Well, they have plenty of extra money right now, due to staff jumping ship left and right.

Some of you old enough to remember retail as a glamorous career, job?

Good pay. Sometimes really good. Mostly day shifts for ft's. Generous health and personal benefits. Discounts. A fun, exciting work environment. Fashion! Meeting the shakers and makers in your community.

Now retail has the reputation of a street corner "worker".

If you build it, they will come.

Will any segment of retail recapture just a tiny bit of their former glory and repuation? Maybe a better question is, would the public even care anymore?

$300 is laughable. Ace Hardware gave my buddy $2,000 sign on bonus after 45 days.

Probably need to be employed 90 days before you see a red cent of it. Then Uncle Sam takes his share, you realize the job s__cks, your manager is lame, and your co-workers are miserable. Hardly worth the $80 bucks you’ll bring home.
