Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Is the grass greener?

I know many in my department are unhappy and looking for other opportunities. I am on the fence and although I’m mentally and financially prepared for a RIF at any given moment, I’ve become comfortable in my little niche here - which is why I am hesitant to start looking. Does anyone else have that issue, or is the grass truly greener on the other side?

I moved to GF couple of years ago from a big name company in industry that everyone dreams to work for. I was miserable at my job and hated it so I made that move, even though everyone warned me from GF. I found things I don't like here at GF when I joined including lower quality coworker engineers with low morale, maybe because they can't find good engineers easily. However, I was able to find work I enjoy doing so I isolated myself from the bad surroundings and things has been alright since then.

My point is don't be deceived by a company name, good or bad, it is all about the work you will be doing and your manager. One has to be honest with themselves and know what their priorities are in life. Also, always have the GTFO money saved and be open to move around for jobs.

Absolutely. GF isn't the worst, but it's far from the best. Every former colleague I've chatted with says the grass is greener. No reason not to believe them, since they were never particularly salty about anything, just were unhappy and left.

I'm in a similar position -- "niche" for me being in a position of irreplaceability, but the burnout and dread is real. I want to get out before they get their share of the CHIPS act and decide to build another fab in Malta. I don't want 2x the work.

There are better opportunities out there.

I'll let you in on a little secret, i know someone whose job at global is to monitor this website and leave comments painting global in a positive light. Does this for glassdoor, google reviews, and more. The company has a history of bad business practices and union busting.

Many jobs in california, texas, arizona, and oregon. Don't be afraid to leave
