Truth of the matter is the bros were ill equipped and ill suited to manage the firm.
Their modus operandi was to bring in consultants for everything as a result of not having their own vision let alone their own abilities and capabilities.
All of this created a lot of uncertainty and double guessing as things trickled down to the stores thru the beaureaucratic and immensely insecure division offices and regionals.
The pursuit of the flagship strategy was a budget ki---r for the company. It left the "cash cow" b &c stores starved for needed monies to staff and maintain themselves.
The fact that they were unable to secure a partnership with another retailer and ultimately had their hands forced to sell off the firm puts it all into perspective.
Now, I will say that the brothers were absolutely good guys. Tim and John always fun. McKay certainly danced to his own drum. Fellows one and all you'd enjoy spending a day with hunting, fishing or just sharing a drink with on a big front porch.
