Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Shopping bags

Are any stores having a problem getting enough shopping bags? We keep running out and are told it is a company wide problem. This has been a reoccurring problem since we reopened last May. How is it that Target has bags, JC Penny has bags, even the Dollar Store has bags, but Macy's can't figure out how to procure them? And even when there were bags were available, they doled them out like they're made of gold. We are making sacks out of garment bags! It's embarrassing. And meanwhile we have boxes of clear internal use bags that we are not allowed to use, and literally thousands of these over priced reusable bags that no body is buying. Someone in supply chain or procurement needs to get fired,

Our store was wasteful with shopping bags. Sell a breakable?... use shopping bags and more shopping bags to wrap the item for protection since there is no tissue paper to use. Need to haul sensor tags to the common area of collection?... gather them up in a shopping bag to transport. Broken mdse?... place into shopping bag so you don't get cut and take to salvage bin. Lost & Found, left behind items?... shopping bag. Customer asks for a shopping bag upon entry?...MAGIC, of course. Dirty diaper in the kids department or a nasty in the fitting room?... seal it in a shopping bag. Pick items for fulfillment, not BOPS?... Use a shopping bag to attach receipt and hang up in the stock room pick up area.

We use to take the RFID tags and leave them in a shelf at the Walmart near us. We stop doing that because we noticed they were out of shopping bags for several weeks. They had to use the bags with the happy faces on them 😊

The removal of RFIDs does not always work. We do this all the time, I throw them in the trash at whatever restaurant I go eat lunch at, far away from Macy's or I walk down to Belks or Dillard's and hide them in the ceiling. Still we don't get every bag we need. For the smaller bag, not the one in cosmetics but like a shirt bag, we have been using backstage bags for the regular store 😁.

Regional and District visits plus the parade and fireworks show come first LOL. Bags are secondary with this place Anything that makes sense elsewhere does not at Macy’s. Things are let go until there is a visit then magically the floor gets straightened out and painting other maintenance like lights are done amazing.

Give a customer a nice shopping bag for a small purchase and you win them over for life. Not harassing them by clientele lists. Macys takes all the joy out of shopping . It is common to see customers looking in desperation for help running from department to department in those stuffy steamy smelly stores. Macys corporate is run way below anyone's expectations .

No bags at our store. They seem to send one box at a time!

Before I was laid off last year part of my responsibility was to go through entire store front and back to cut off bar codes on cartons of bags and boxes, remove from store (usually took them to my house to dispose of). When box/bag audit is done any labels captured are deemed full boxes even when empty or used for storage. Therefore the possibility exists you will not receive replenishment. That includes both buildings if you have two.
I was the AST supervisor.

Is there a shortage of plastic bag manufacturing? Even the 2 Walmarts I have gone to on occasion have generic bags, the ones that say "have a nice day".

When we ask for supplies, etc., we are told there will be more dollars available in aug. to buy and do things since that month is the start of the fall/Christmas season. This is often the answer to many questions.

Red badge here....At my store we have run out repeatedly and when we try to order more they tell us we have have what we need. It’s infuriating. There’s one woman that oversees supplies and she’s horrible to worth with. We have started ordered triple what we normally would just for this very reason...if you go by what they tell you you need...you’ll always run out. Just another example of Macy’s rapidly deteriorating...but don’t worry we’ll keep spending thousands and thousands of dollars to put on a smoke & mirrors show for a visit from Marc or Jeff or even the regionals..ridiculous
