Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Should’ve raised my hand

Every week I get more and more depressed that I didn’t take the package when it was offered. Weekends are all I look forward to anymore. Here’s hoping there’s another chance soon.

I used to be like that also, and also like the person who said they work Fridays until 7:00 and then most of Sundays. I figured out it was mo--nic to do so when NO ONE else is doing that. They would be talking about what they did on the weekends and leave early on Friday to go do it. In the end, it never benefited me with any extra compensation...on occasion got an "atta boy". I figured out after a while that all it really did was make me the "go to" person that the boss could lob a project at around 3:00 on Friday and expect it done by Monday morning.

I’m applying for jobs out there, hoping to make a clean break. Conocophillips is a good starter job but the real one is definitely not here.

Weekends were all I ever looked forward to. Except working Friday until 7 pm and then most of Sunday. Waah!

Agree with Careful what you decide reply. If you are not ready for retirement and do not have another job ready and full vesting it can be a big problem and while it seems great there is a lot of risk. Grass is always greener but never underestimate a paycheck coming in this business and other industries are full of people that took the package and it did not end well (Katy has a few)

Careful what you decide. Unless you are ready for retirement these packages are not that great unless you get full vesting of long term incentives and you have another job lined up. If you have been in this business a long time you have no doubt put up with this before. What’s just one more time.
