Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

Letting experience walk out the door

Baker is down to one H-Pump mechanic is Midland Tx. The experienced two they had found jobs working for competitor company's making more money. The only work we have now is warranty work, and that is because new pumps are being sent out to the field not able to work properly. We are not turning in any tickets to create income. Sales team and management are getting paid for their lack of experience. I don't see the company bouncing back if we have lost all of the experienced mechanic.

It’s been like this for some time. Just remember that the interest is to build up technical support teams in India, the focus is to ramp up manufacturing elsewhere. You’re too damn expensive to employ here. Your benefits are shrinking and slowly but surely the interest is no longer in the American worker.

Then you have age to worry about. The older and more experienced you are, the costlier it is to insure you and family.

There’s really no other way around it. Get out if and when you can. The world, life doesn’t stop without Baker.

Good luck to all that remain.

@OP BH doesn’t care. Neither does any other O&G company of any size.

The buzziest buzzword in the industry now is “lean”. What executives mean when they say that is “automation, offshoring, and outsourcing”. The goal is to drive down labor costs, float the stock price, and fluff executive compensation packages (usually tied to company stock).

If you’ve been in O&G for less than ten years I’d recommend switching to a different industry. O&G is at the beginning of (at least) a decade of disruption and restructuring, with no clear end in sight.

Lay off will be coming around soon due to lack of experience in the"sales team" and lack of knowledge and inexperience in management. Not good for the folks who have families to support.
