Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

How much longer than originally intended did you stay here?

I can't forgive myself for not being determined enough to leave this place when I intended to.

I got a job here during high school and thought I would stay a maximum of 2 years, but I’ve been here for five years.

The more time passed, the harder it was for me to get out of here. This is not a place where you want to stay long.

My gosh! How hard is this? Clearly, working for Walmart is not anyone’s dream when they are growing up. Can you just see it? A mother asks her child, “Honey, what would you like to do when you grow up?” The child answers, “Mommy, I want to work at Walmart!”

The truth is, if you’re working at Walmart, you’re employment options are limited. Perhaps you didn’t get that college degree, or had a baby at 16, never learned a trade or skill, or have a felony conviction. Maybe you don’t qualify or have the necessary aptitude to work at a job that requires ‘more’.

Maybe it’s time to take a close look at yourself. Maybe Walmart is the pinnacle of your work career for a reason.

I remember telling my assistant manager "I'm only here until I graduate college" which I did but that was over 3 decades ago. I even went back to school and got my EMT license and still stayed. Back in the day you couldn't beat Monday through Friday. It's a different world and a different Walmart now days

I just left after 10 years today. I walked out and I feel such relief and am so happy. Walmart is a terrible company that doesn’t value its employees. Nail in the coffin for me was the terrible roll out of team scheduling. Forcing people to work outside their availability on top of being mistreated and not valued was enough for me. Took a toll on my mental health and these past few months were trying and the worst it’s ever been. Hopefully everyone else who is unhappy will find another employer who values and appreciates you and you too can walk away from a toxic workplace.

Walmart is not a solid long term choice for employment. And, there really are other options out there. People live, eat and breath Walmart -- and then don't have time for anything else. The stress levels and demands are all soul consuming. Be careful about making this a life choice -- I work with quite a few folks who are over 20 yrs with Walmart -- and management is actively trying to push them out the door. That could easily be you in 20 (probably more like 5 to 10 yrs from now). These folks sacrificed a lot for this organization -- and it means nothing. They are being crapped on. You are just another Win number -- nothing more, nothing less.

Don't make the same mistake I did. I started to make more money and made a big purchase. A new car. Oh crud I'm stuck now. So before you buy a house or car make sure this is where you want to work permanently
