Honestly, I wasn’t hoping for any reaction when I gave the notice, however, it was clear that he was very surprised. I guess my boss thought I would never leave, since I never complained nor had openly shown any dissatisfaction. They do seem to care when people leave after all? I will only miss some people, but I hope to see you in new companies.

I don’t trust any of the managers today ...They are all versed in Xerox Doublespeak
Idk how your relationship was with your manager but I genuinely hope they did truly care about you. I'm sure there are other concerns too but those types of concerns have been there regardless of your employment status with them. That's just business. But they can't give you a raise or any other incentives to stay at this time... I mean a company whose John V's are not on the same boat as us minions... they are on their expensive yachts, while the rest of us are hangin on to buoy's... cannot pay competitive respectable wages since all the money is staying on top. Fiscally, and generally speaking, while our management might want to keep us, their hands are tied and mouths gagged against helping us because goodness forbid they match our 401k or pay us real living wages and take gas from the yachts of the "leaders".
They can't offer you more 💰or more help as in past years and they know this. That surprised facial expressions are for themselves "now I have to do more work"
Yeah maybe he was expecting you to stay forever and just put up with whatever stuff he throws at you. And maybe he only cares as he wont be able to backfill.. or as has to go through the hassle of finding someone new?
