Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

How would managers fare?

I moved to another company two months ago. I succeeded after a few months of looking for a new job and I already feel great relief. Only now do I see how much I was undervalued at BN. Here I am paid much more for a similar job, and the environment is much healthier. From many people who have left BN I hear a lot of positive stories.

What interests me is how would managers fare in other companies? I doubt they would be as comfortable as they were in BN.

Management promotions driven to much by nepotism many should have never been in any leadership role. The market is a brutal place and Barnes and Noble had a very laid back environment if you were a manager. A lot of things manager would do here would not be tolerated at other places. A few good ones but most were mediocre at their job and poor in professionalism.

I know the Regional and Store Managers around here have a horrible reputation in New England. I talked to top managers from other companies and they even said they'd never hire them.

Same here in North Carolina.
