Asset protection is a tough job. It is complicated by the terrible laws that we have with respect to shop lifting and what you can and can't do. Fixing some of these laws might help as well as hiring well trained personnel. New technology may also provide some relief. Spare the rod, spoil the ----!

You never know what some of these criminals will do. Some carry knives and even guns. Imagine going into a fitting room and someone is carrying a kn--e. In the old days LP would go chasing after people down the street. We used to have arrests right in front of the main door. LP would come out the side door and arrest people 6 feet outside the door. Now they seem to focus more on photo surveillance.

Replying to this post, you are delusional. And honestly a perfect example of why Macy’s won’t be around in 10 years. Organized crime groups who perform large grab and runs are rare and typically target stores with no loss prevention. Opportunity theft in fitting rooms is the companies biggest loss. You must be an executive with your head up your a-s like the rest of them goodluck.

Company will never spend the kind of money you are talking about to manage fitting rooms like that. And in very short order, someone will figure out how to start a huge complaint over a number system and an employee accidentally miscounting
pieces going in and out for someone of another race, then that's all over. We are bending over deep to keep from offending everyone so you will not see this happen, ever.

And you obviously don't see all the grab and runs that happen every day, and at least twice a week the organized crime people come in and just walk out with what they want. That's where a huge portion of theft is happening.

And no, fitting rooms do not need to be closed due to COVID-19. What a joke.

Want to stop theft?? Close fitting rooms which should be closed due to Covid in the first place. 90% of theft occurs in fitting rooms. Not Covid? Fitting room attendants who give out tags with how many items you go in with. Max 4 items per customer and full time attendants who are actually sanitizing the stalls and cleaning them out which isn’t happening right now. That right there prevents millions of dollars of theft instead of your fitting rooms being used to rip the company off millions and creating Covid breeding grounds. Not complicated.... it’s almost like Macy’s encourages you to steal by not caring what happens with the fitting rooms.

Former AP here. Our one and only job was internal theft. The reward was huge if we nailed an associate. It was easy to do.

"still doesnt make sense why they would shift a security manager to multi stores"

Because of the cuts in personnel and Macy's is willing to let the merchandise walk out instead of having adequate AP personnel during store hours. As a result, it doesn't make sense to have an AP manager at each location, just have one manage multiple locations.
The AP at Macy's was once top rated, which attracted good personnel, some who would eventually move on to higher paying careers in law enforcement, that's not the case anymore.

Macy's has pretty much handcuffed their AP teams. I won't go into details for disclose purposes. Our AP team consist of one experienced guy and one who has zero experience, much less even had any interest in it but took it cause needed a job. Might as well just not even have AP. The store manager IS the one in charge of AP and she has zero experience in that, so she rarely even oversees it. It seems the AP duo at our store has the easiest job out of anybody, just stay locked up in the office all day till it's time to leave.

It's needed, also more asset protection detectives and VSO's. The thieving thugs are walking out with millions ever year and the bleed has to stop.
