In the beginning I was unfortunately very picky so I missed two very good opportunities. I didn’t want to move to companies that aren’t the diametric opposite of this one. However, I haven’t been able to find any job for a long time now, and it’s become really awful here, so I’m at a stage where I’d accept any job I can get, just to get out of here.

Okay, here is advice from someone who was booted during the Great Culling and now sees it as one of the best things that ever happened to me. Use a site - I used I****d - take off ALL specifications except locality, if you don't want to move or drive far. Choose the day you are going to start and set it so you see ONLY the job listings entered in the past 24 hours. Keep an open mind. It won't take long to pass over those at the ends of the spectrum for you - janitorial (?) to brain surgeon - but read everything in between. Do this religiously every single day - your job is finding a job. Use the easy application feature to apply for EVERY job you think you can do. Think of every interview that does not end with a job offer as practice. I submitted many applications, but I had 10 interviews, 3 ending in job offers. Remember this, a job search does not end with employment. A job search ends when you are satisfied with an employment. People here may scream denial, but there are worse companies to work for than even B&N. Using this method I found my current job, and I would have never seen the listing if I had narrowed my search by any more than I've told you to use. I make as much as I did as a B&N key-holder, have a 401k, do not have to deal directly with the public. I work Monday through Friday, no earlier than 8 a.m, no later than 4 p.m. No weekends, no holidays. In fact, the dreaded Black Friday weekend has become 4 days off for me, these past two years. I had no idea how depressed and borderline suicidal I had become from working at B&N, not until I'd been in my current job for almost a year.
It's a whole different and more difficult time to find a job, especially if you're over 40. Some will deny that but it's true. Just like B&N managers avoided hiring women with kids. They know you're going to have too many issues for their skeleton crew schedules and even before.
Come on, let's put all the truth out there now!
Problem is most people left at BN are qualify for jobs that require no skills because BN skillsets are non–transferable. If they qualified for these with any amount of intelligence they would have left for greener pastures long before. Everyone has seen the writing on the wall for ages. At least grocery stores are hiring, and there's always gig jobs like UberEats and DoorDash.
You work at BN.
You should be able to accept ANY other job.
