There are many people who went for better opportunities, ie those who, despite the overall situation on the market, still decided to take risks by starting from the beginning.
I know a few great people who have left that any reasonable employer would try to keep in every way possible. Oxy didn't try to keep them. I wonder if there’s anyone that Oxy tried to stop from leaving lately?

What types women are you working with. My experience is that are even more manipulative on the job then they are at home. They are masters at this and don’t really whine.
Everybody knows that women have leadership positions. The poster below was talking about women’s compensation. Not about women’s titles and responsibilities. Two Very Different Things. Make all our salaries public like the CEOs (and stop using the excuse that we have a female ceo so everything must be fair). there would be some eye opening stuff.
@3aqf true. Women just can’t seem to learn how to ask for more fair compensation without seeming whiny. They need to learn how to be more authoritative without seeming bossy. Then they might seem like they deserve more money.
A lot of Great people left the past few years. With that an untold amount of knowledge and experience walked out the door with these people. Experience means something!
Looks like the VP of HR is pretty active trolling and commenting on this site. Nice to know OXY has the extra money to pay someone to do that.
There are a lot of well qualified women that are in leadership positions on the technical side. Just look at the gender of our CEO. Your statement is not accurate at all. Women in this company do have leadership roles so find something else to complain about. Acknowledge the women that have leadership positions.
Plenty of large promotions are given throughout the year...if they tell you otherwise, they’re lying. Larger than what was given to most at annual raise time. They’ll make every effort to keep those who fit their agenda aka the employees that say ‘yes’ to anything. And unless you’re a male, don’t bother asking for more money. They criticize women for this, while rewarding the men.
Do a great job and you will likely be rewarded next year. Sometimes they do salary adjustments mid–year if the labor market is tight. We can only hope the oil industry improves enough to absorb all of the surplus talent looking for professional employment.
A real effort was made by my managers to the extent that they thought they could. It was limited to a position change and promotion but no pay raise. I don’t hold anything against them but Oxy is playing with a hand tied behind their back. It’s a combination of back breaking debt and nobody caring about more than their individual fiefdom.
Some people are worth keeping if they can be leveraging to making an international deal. The deal can be won just because of the right person being involved in the technical analysis and presentation.
OPEC.
Be honest with yourself and name anyone that is worth keeping? Do you know anyone that single handedly bring in millions of dollars for Oxy? And I'm talking about real money! Not paper funny money!
I have always felt that by the time you tell your boss “do this for me or I quit” you are really telling yourself you should be out of that environment anyway. A better approach if you like your job is to wait and see what happens for your options at the company. Build your story as to why you should have more but follow that up with job actions to provide support. Here is where being in the office has advantages where decision makers can actually see you in action, both what you do and how you do it. Obviously I am not talking about clerical positions but highly paid professional positions.
No one is irreplaceable, no matter how it appears in your little Oxy circle. It’s an employer's market right now. Oxy is overstaffed and is not going to get into a bidding war to keep someone who has gone through all the trouble of getting an outside offer. The sad truth is if you are unhappy with compensation, the only tried and true way to fix it is to leave the company. You are added to a bad list if you do use an outside offer to get more money. And asking nicely goes nowhere. This is the way.

In this environment the company cannot start upping compensation for individuals just to keep them. This would be difficult to keep confidential and you would have half of the workforce trying to pull the same thing. Where would it stop. I’ll tell you that it would stop with the first lawsuit that was brought about for unfair treatment outside of normal policies controlling compensation. However, there is nothing to prevent them from rehiring someone for a special deal or sign on bonus. Just quit and see if they will rehire you for more money.
