I'm the youngest member on my team and I seem to be the only one here who is not constantly worried about his job. Everybody else is scared all the time. To say the work atmosphere is somber would be an understatement. That is no way to live, in my opinion. This is more than enough proof for me to know that I need to change companies before I hit 50 (or even sooner.)

Youngsters spent up to 100k on IT/IS degrees and will have no jobs.
Automation has become so easy the receptionist can do it.
I see a mass of career changers out of tech in the coming years.
Don’t feel bad for us old people 😉 I’m cruising to retirement Bud! Homes paid for.. kids out of college debt free. Toughest decision soon to be golf, gardening or relaxing by the pool. Never made more than 80k a year just worked 40 years and never in management. Lived well within my means and invested well 😀. Good luck to all the youngsters!!
Actually I pity the young colleagues. They complain less because they think all these mistreatments are normal (like born slaves). Open your eyes. Demand more. Don’t be a fricking sheep.
This might be controversial but can we just start PIPing actual deadweight people who don't work?
Income security is a rare thing... even if one has enough money to never work again... hyperflation could happen, wars can happen, etc.
I think it was Machiavelli that something like, "The need for provisioning is constant. Since no one knows how much is enough... when two meet doing this... the conditions for war are set."
No doubt some gigs are more secure than others, but no deal is 100% certain.
I feel sorry for my younger colleagues. I'm retiring mid–year, they still have to work for a living
I have seen new hires tossed out when whole departments get trashed.
If you are not worried, you know nothing about IBM HR.
Since IBMs "remixing skills" plans have now being "rumbled" by the press .... theres a new strategy. Younger workers are now "collateral damage", and everyone gets the chop.
I don't discriminate – I feel bad for both young AND old at IBM! I got out.
Yeah, if I were you I would not stick around IBM too long... IBM does also lay off younger workers... This is a way to show that there is no age discrimination. Additionally, there is really not much of a future at IBM for anyone.
You are just a TROLL!
You should leave now, that is if you have some degree of marketable skills.
