Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Moncton BSC

Seems like 400 people will be gone by end of July.

Wonder what next?

Any updates on how the Moncton change is going? I presume most people got offered jobs with the new MSP, but at less attractive overall compensation? Some more capable people are probably leaving, those with fewer options will stick it out? What's the handover timeline?

Do what’s right for you and your family. That may mean sticking around a bit longer with IOL/Exxonmobil, just do it on your own terms. I certainly would not show any loyalty to a company that has proven that they will show no loyalty to their employees. Moncton is simply the latest spot targeted. There will be more if they can save a dime.

Sorry if this is du–b question, what groups or work was being done in Moncton? Never worked with anyone from there or heard about it.

Calgary downstream supply and trading jobs are to be outsourced, confirmed by my manager. Moncton scheduler jobs will be gone as well.

Prepare your exits as soon as possible!

Yes with on going chemical studies being conducted on reshaping that business unit I imagine before 2021/2022 has ended the last BU in Moncton of chemicals is gone as well. Crazy journey for a location that in the 2000s had 1500+ personnel.

The message is clear, get out as soon as you can, don’t aim for this to be a retirement company. If your goal is to use it as a stepping stone to build skills than that’s fine but clearly imperial values outsourcing over a sustained career ecosystem in Canada and your work efforts should align with that objective in mind.

Be curious to hear what the employee severance options are, in a lot of cases where another provider takes over we’ve seen severance not provided in lieu for employment offers that are 1/2 what existing workforce makes... hopefully this change doesn’t have the company skimp out for its long term team members in this way.

Treasurer's Credit, EMIT, and now F&L have all been moved within the last year. They are not growing the Chemicals' footprint in Moncton. The writing is on the wall. Personal opinion, Moncton is done by 2023.

Within few years there will be only few coordinators left in Calgary office. These coordinators will work with cheap overseas and with site folks. Most of us are providing training continuously to cheap locations/ BTC employees to become our own replacements.

Employees even 5 yrs away from retirement are also vulnerable. Stop dreaming to retire from Imperial if you are 8 / 10 yrs from it. Most of Imperial Managers / supervisors are not eligible to be a leader. That’s why they always appreciate pretenders due to their lack of technical and leadership skills. In addition, upper management greed towards their year end benefits and stocks rather than company assets are the main reason for this sinking ship.
