Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

How much do you feel valued here?

I would not have any satisfaction or motivation, that is, I would not be able to work in a company where I think my work is not appreciated at all and where I would feel just like a number. I do everything to not feel like just a number here. I have to admit that at times I don’t feel very appreciated, but I also don’t think my work is completely devalued either.

I was lucky. Escaped a couple of massacres by skin of teeth. Now have very rare skill they need. Management see my value, but the execs and company hate me.

@1yac+1atC1Lhh I'm surprised you have not been hit in layoffs. 60+ age and high labor grade. I was hit in 2016 when I was 61 and labor grade 10.

when you get written from ur your manager admitting they do not know what you do for an important role... no your are not valued. you are totally taken for granted. emphasized when many slackers get various recognition even for ur work !!

i saw this and planned for leaving with some cash. sooo glad i did.
life is better outside cisco. aka u have one vs being a slave to a company paying under averages and expecting 2x hours.

get out while employers still think cisco wrok is valuable.

View Cisco as a personal bank for Directors and above. In the current corporate system, they have zero incentive to improve products or services. Anyone that tries to improve things is labeled as "negative"

@4wkd+1atC1Lhh Far from it. Chuckie gonna drive everything right down the drain. Days of talking your way out of things are long gone. You missed the webex boat, and now everyday a new update comes and FML.. I tried zoom the other day... Just saying I wanna rep Cisco but webex aint it.. And then this meraki tracking systems... Thats what you came up with... China would love it... Time to go back to spin–ins...

I have seen Halley's Comet more times than I've seen my VP – and I have a fairly important job.

That's a laugh.

I've seen John Chambers once during his visit to RTP. It was either Cisco's 30th anniversary or RTP's 20th anniversary. I've seen Chuck Robbins twice, once at a celebration when he took over as CEO and once for some Cisco anniversary. In all cases, I was just one of hundreds in an audience.

I've never seen my VP or SVP in my last 2 business units. I did see the VP and SVP of my first BU, but that was back between '06 – '08 when money was good and the VP/SVP's travelled a lot to various sites to wave the flag and cheer us workers on.

In the last 4 yrs, I've seen my manager twice in the first year and nothing since, our director never, and our senior director twice during year three. Obviously Ive seen no one for the past 14 months due to the pandemic.

Tried to post this the other day, not sure why it didnt'

To be valued you must be recognized by someone in power. These days that's a VP or higher, especially in CX.

Cisco is not your parent or your partner, it is a company on the decline overseen by vultures and their parasitic hanger–ons. I would have to question the mental faculties of somebody seeking validation from such a toxic dump.

There is only one reason to be at Cisco: to squirrel away as much money as you can while being on a perpetual vacation.

Living debt free as a minimalist in the Bay Area while earning a tech salary is akin to having a license to print money. While people around me were trying to lick the boots of their superiors who had open disdain for them, I kicked back while collecting a paycheck and playing expert mode sudoku all day.

The best part: Cisco gave me a bunch of money to leave!

Cisco is the greatest company in the history of the universe and they set me up nicely in life. I am thankful to them for every penny that I stole.

Ya'll hate the whole woke culture so here is the cold harsh truth:

  1. Are you getting paid or you volunteering?
  2. You dont like the pay... look for a job that will give you the pay or the "feeling" of being valued
  3. If you are looking for a feeling of being valued, bruh thats gonna be a sad life.
  4. Company got 60K employees. Noone is gonna be helping your sorry a–s
  5. This whole I am old/white/male and all. Bruh if you can put it in the same amount of work like your immigrant counterparts then we can talk. Also look up the cisco directory structure. Tell me wass up there.

I say this all knowing full well when the next axe comes I might be in the line. Well life happens and I will deal with it. Man the fu–k up..... Move your sorry a–s.... Cry a little... Live a little... Take some chances... YOLO!!!! Bi–––h!!!

To be valued someone in power must know what I'm doing. I've seen Haley's comet more than I've seen my VP.

Your job output is purely a number to be put in a power point that some manager is compiling every month.
A power point is also the only tool this manager can use, and not even well.
And some of your co–workers know this really well, so don’t be too friendly with them, the backstabbing is very quick sometimes.

Prove me wrong.

Don't get emotional about any company. Just do your job well and keep your skills up and stay agile and aware of market trends so you can maximise your worth. If Eric Yuan was still at Cisco where would he be now ??

Valued ! No way. I feel that I will be outsourced no matter how well I do.

Actually enjoy my job and think I'm fairly good at it. The politics and backstabbing are what is getting to me. I spend at least 50% of the time not get thrown under the bus. It is exhausting.

Your loyalty to Cisco should be the same as their loyalty to you –– which is to say, zero. Do the job and do it well, but don't stress about it. Cisco is in a state of permanent, slow, managed decline and there's nothing any one individual can do about it. Can't fight gravity.

@1yac+1atC1Lhh HA ––– There are indeed lots of us organic canine digestive steamer / LR remnants out in the front yard of the networking industry in general; woke just enough now at other vendors to design cutover plans to get rid of the old Cisco gear we used to develop ourselves.

I am proud to be an un–woke d0gt_urd

Valued? Not at all. Since I’m a “white” male, over 60, grade 12, and nowhere near woke, I’m about as welcome as steaming dog turds on the front lawn.

It's just work. Do your best. Do not expect much more than pay. Channel your feelings into something besides work. Realize the work responsibilities and work relationships can end at any time. Honestly one of the best gifts Cisco gave me was an LR. I also cared, way too much, about my team's success, my work relationships, and work outcomes.

Cisco taught me much. Especially how to get kicked out of the company for no rational business decision. No hard feelings. Their loss.

Move on if you feel like you aren't feeling valued. We are all just ultimately financial liability numbers on a balance sheet.

Look at your badge. The number you see there is on a spreadsheet with your age, ethnicity, tenure and loaded cost to Cisco. So you are not "a" number to Cisco....you are multiple numbers that they use to decide when you will be leaving.
