Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

COBRA is free from the Fed starting April 1

Part of the latest stimulus bill states that the Fed will subsidize COBRA health insurance payments for laid off employees for 6 months starting April 1. Also, if you did not take COBRA when you were laid off, you are eligible for it now free. Allstate is, or will be required to notify laid off employees.

Has anyone on COBRA heard from Allstate about that? I already made my April payment. I would like to get that reimbursed and not have to pay out of pocket starting May.

If you are on COBRA, or now will be eligible, call HR and don't let this go. This is a big deal.

I am pretty sure this applies to those laid off before April 1. The subsidy runs only April 1 to September 30.

That is for those laid off April 1st on. Not before.

Allstate didn't tell us half of what they were required to when we were laid off. Do you really expect them to with this? They are incompetent. And it wouldn't be Allstate the would reimburse you for your April COBRA payment as you would need to contact COBRA directly.

I got short term coverage privately for like $200 a month and it was much better coverage than COBRA. So much so that I would rather have this coverage paying oyt $200 a month than COBRA for free. But free COBRA is better than nothing. I'll just stay on that for another few months as I have a new job starting in mid May.
