Do the right thing oxy, allow flexibility or some kind of hybrid model. Most of us are more productive and less drained from not having to commute two hours a day. At least let us work from home a day or two a week.

“There are plenty of well qualified people willing to commute” perfectly makes the point. There has been a phase shift. If you only recruit from the pool of people willing to come into the office every day, you’ve cut off your access to the full spectrum of best and most effective talent.
The world was forced into work from home. It was not a choice. Companies don’t care what the spoiled workforce wants. There are plenty of very well qualified people willing to commute, even in Houston.
Some of the comments below are spoken like ignorant dinosaurs who don’t like the fact that the world is changing. Get with it because your world views are no longer the only ones management is listening to (clearly since we have been wfh for over a year and they sent out a survey asking what days employees would prefer to work in the office).
Your attitude implies that you are just a technician running a computer from home. The company doesn’t need professionals doing just this. They need people to interact on physical teams in the office and not on a 2d matrix of moving pictures in virtual meeting software. If you really want wfh why don’t you just become an at home contractor and give up your benefits.
Your post makes no sense.
Field personnel have to go to the office by their job requirements, white collar workers do not. It’s definitely a poor comparison to say because blue collar field workers have to physically go in, so do white collar office workers who can get everything done from home.
Happy hours start at 3:05 pm.
WFH is great for the employees. A little extra sack time... extra long lunches... mid day naps... shut it down at 3 PM. For for the effectiveness of the organization it’s a disaster.

Office workers want special treatment because they perceive themselves as being more important. This whole wfh stuff is bs if they think they can have it this way long term. Even the hybrid is bs. Oil companies work from either the field or the office. No home option.
Quit!
Work from home nahh go back and work from offices all the field personel are working in the field conducting all day to day ops as normal
Why should the rest keep working from home ?
