Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Not very picky?

There is a lot of hiring going on and I’m glad everyone has a job opportunity, however, does it seem to you that Cisco is almost no longer selective at all when hiring new people?
I had a friend who applied for a job here at the same time as me and he did not get a job, and he was much more talented than these new recruits, which he proved in another company.

Whomever I'm hiring - I expect someone with the requisite hard and soft skill plus a desire to work at this company and some insights on why this company is a fit for them / vice versa. I don't give a rats a-s about gender, preference, school they came from - just are they qualified, do they understand whats in front of them, and can they convince me they will put in the work others do in order to stand out?

Hey old man, catch up. There have been more women doctors graduating than men for about w0 years now (depends on the country).

Wrong. If you’re hiring pipe welders, you’d expect 95% men. If it was pediatric nurses, then you’d expect o0% women.

I'm not wrong. I said IF you were hiring based on talent. Companies used to only hire men for manual labor jobs due to upper body strength. Women have proven that they can do the same job just as well. Not all women can, but I'm not strong enough to do heavy lifting either and there are plenty of women who can. Women are becoming doctors and men are becoming nurses. Those barriers are coming down.

Besides, the initial conversation was about technical skills/jobs, not manual labor. I would have modified my numbers if I was talking about blue collar manual labor that requires strength.

At least you didn't say pipe welders would be 95% WHITE men. Again, the comment I called out said "...company with 90% white males and a few white woman." (sic)

How do you KNOW you're hiring only top talent based on skills if you only hire women minorities?

Works both ways; you hire based on talent and results not race or sexuality.

IF you hire based on talent, you won't be heavily skewed all in one direction. 90% white males is a definite bias. There are a hella lot of talented women and minorities of either gender. If you're 90% white male, you're biased. If it were 50-60% white male and 40-50% women and non-wh—s of either s-x, then I might believe that you're hiring based on talent.

Now I work for a company with 90% white males and a few white woman. We crush it and there is no worry about a minority taking our job. We only hire top talent based on skills.

The people who can’t handle the truth are those that don’t believe reverse discrimination is real to the point of it is taboo to even discuss or consider. (See how long this post lasts)

Hiring (or doing anything else) based on skin color is a REALLY bad idea.
Get over your Critical Race Theory

Minority hiring is a good thing especially in customer facing roles. Get over your whiteness.

I no longer work for big tech as its all about hiring diversity. Now I work for a company with 90% white males and a few white woman. We crush it and there is no worry about a minority taking our job. We only hire top talent based on skills. Everyone is way happier and there is no website like this with people complaining about how horrible it is to work there. The worst part of Cisco is the people. Hands down. I work for a partner and dealing with most of the Cisco reps is painful. Toxic culture that was really created by Chuckie.

My team is in the process of hiring a new employee and our manager flat out told the team during a team meeting that the hire is going to be a minority hire as Cisco requires it.

My group is only interested in hiring diverse. That’s what makes a good employee.

Cisco is a relationship based company. Work at a different company if you care about performance.

Cisco has no clue who's a good employee or who's a bad employee. I've seen completely incompetent slobs sit around collecting a check for 20+ years and I've seen extremely talented people get laid off.

It's–tabout hiring the best anymore. The companies that decide to hire the best, most talented people will ultimately be the most successful.

Maybe he had a bad interview or someone else was a “preferred” hire.

Don’t get too excited. In my experience many times a (long standing) open req is used to find a moap to layoff in order to keep the “core team” when the next round of layoffs come.
