Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

So no more availability

So basically one’s availability doesn’t matter anymore. If you can’t work a shift or certain days it doesn’t matter. You must take what you are given on the new team schedules or be put down to part time. I don’t see how Walmart getting away with this. People have availability exceptions for reasons. Now if you are so not take the shitty offer given you will lose your full time.

Walmart makes BILLIONS they can afford to pay their people a living wage. No need to f–k over their employees but they do. And with this new scheduling if they wanted to push people out the door, they should have offered a severance package. They are fu—g sh—y employer and it’s all about GREED.

Always be careful of what you ask for. Most of these changes are brought on by all of the new rules and regulations Walmart must follow. Back in the day you could make a career out of retail and have a good pension and retirement. Now companies are mandated to give certain benefits to everyone, part time and full time, and to give a certain amount of days off per year, pay more for unemployment and workmans comp insurance. And with the pay increases mandated by states (I think $10-15 and hour is fair) some states are looking at $20-25 per hour minumum wage. If you pay a cashier or a stocker $20 per hour then you must increase the wages of others who have more skills. Basic business ecomomics. Just think if this is your business and you needed to stay in business what would you do?

Yes thats why people are going to do leave the company. When one is hired they fill out a thing called an availability sheet saying when they are available to work. Walmart is forcing people to accept a schedule that is outside of when they are available. If you do not except you risk losing full time and health care. It is wrong what they are doing. Terrible company to do this to their employees and cause all this stress. I have never seen any other retailer FORCE this idiotic scheduling. Seems like people who can only open are getting mid close shifts, closers being offered mornings. It’s st—dIt’s just a way to push people out the door. They already have a hard time keep employees and now they are doing this to loyal employees. Shows just how much they appreciate their workers. It’s complete bu—twhat they are doing.

Hmm what ever happened to Supervisors having the right to set schedules? You have a right to find another job that fits your time requirements.

Just because your part time doesn’t mean you are lazy 🙄 Also they need to have a certain head count, so many ft so many pt. Walmart isn’t able to keep any employees as it is and the ones who do stick around are getting the shaft. There are other retailers out there and other opportunities just have to look. Walmart is going downhill. Awful company to work for that’s why so many are leaving even long term associates.

Yes, the future of retail is moving to part time hours, eventually. For Walmart, that gives them the ability to get rid of lazy, shiftless, and bad attitude workers who could not get a job anywhere else but Walmart. Let’s face it, no one aspires or grows up with a overwhelming desire to work at Walmart, so it’s the bottom of the labor pool that finds its way there.

They are cleaning house like sams club did. If you have 5 or more years of slavery look out. The chains are coming and you will be forced to walk the plank. It will turn into a part time only business.

Told store manger that I changed mind about package and he isn’t wanting to sign my availability sheet to switch back to my availability I had. It was already approved I rethought about my offer and I don’t want it. Will I need to contact corporate hr? I don’t want their offer I want to keep my current days off and availability. I’m so sick of this place.

I feel like I made the wrong choice I took package and hr already changed my availability in system like basically after to talked to her. I wonder how mad she would be if I tell her I don’t want the package. The more I think about it mentally I can not do it.

The future of all of retail is part time, no benefits, open availability, and no full time. Unfortunately, for those who can't adjust you need to find new employment in another industry.

That’s good for the people that got the 7-4 shifts and got to keep their days off. Sucks for the ones who did not. Really torn what I should do. It’s gotten so bad here. It’s beyond stressful. No help and it is very bad and stressful so torn if I should take this package which I did not even get my same days off which I’m not available and also the hours I did get way out of my availability. Kicker is in 6 months it can change again.
