Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

How hard was it for you to find a new job?

I hear a lot of positive stories about how people found new jobs soon after they got laid off. I was laid off a few months ago and still can’t find a job. I know it's too early and it will certainly take a few more months, but I'm already panicking. How long did it take you to get to the next job?

It took me 7 months to find a job and 9 months to start. Out of state. Height of the pandemic. I can't imagine there is much in OKC even with the recovery in full swing.

You also need to accept that you will have to relocate out of OKC.
Job market here is stagnant in general, let alone the case of petroleum engineers ...

Yeah the only engineers I've heard of getting new jobs were those that could make a case for themselves in other industries. No one wants an ex CHK engineer right now unless they're versatile. (And no your "petrotech" rotation doesn't count)

If you are in finance/accounting/land/legal/administration, you will be ok, no reason at all to panic.
If you are a geoscientist, maybe you should start having some concern, and seriously consider other industries.
If you are a Petroleum engineer and/or had an established career in completions, reservoir, drilling, I can just wish you good luck....
