The same is true for most managers in the US. They are really good at demotivating employees. Some of the upper managers are incompetent and do not see value in technical work. They prefer employees that are good talkers regardless of the fact the same employees cannot deliver. The incompetent managers claim that they understand the underachieving talker. They don't feel threatened by the talkers either. They simply like employees that know how to deliver software that is always the same (hamburger-catchup type) and never changes. These same employees do not ask questions, they do not have opinions or aspirations to improve the status quo. They simply deliver as if they work on an assembly line. This is Sabre. This is what today's managers like. The work-life balance in the US is really poor particularly for the overachievers. The assembly-line software engineers put their 8 hours and go home. After all it is an assembly line why bother. They do not care to learn new software and acquire new skills. Upper management could care less in investing in the employees either. The new software or technology is just shiny things. And Sabre claims to be a technology company.

I left Sabre because of my manager. I was not afraid of the covid impact or a lay off. I decided to show some respect to myself. US managers are ok.In KRK very poor. They have a huge talent demotivating people. What a pity i had to quit after so many years , because sabre is a great company and the work life balance is just great...

Every manager, every person has strengths, weaknesses, insight and blind spots. It’s human. S/he also deals with things that I thankfully don’t have to worry about. In the end, s/he supports me, advocates for me, and acts as a buffer for a ton of noise, so no complaints from me.

Some of my managers have been very good and some extremely bad. It is worth mentioning that there was 5 year period during which I had 6 different managers. It seems that there is very high turnover across the board.
I had a manger for about year who did not have the necessary skills and background to lead a highly technical team of architects. The manger came from a customer service focused department in the company. The manager felt challenged most of the time. If there was an issue which required escalation to be resolved, the manager's answer was just make the issue go away. He or she did not make any effort to understand the issue. My colleagues felt that as the manger did not understand what we do, the manager was not supportive. Then about a year later the manager transferred internally to another department, away from managing technical people and projects.

My direct manager. 9/10
His Director: strong 3/10
Her VP: barely 2/10

My product managers: 3/10
Beautifull at vision, dramatic at ways of execution...
