Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Less work or higher pay?

I hear more and more complaints from my colleagues that they are underpaid, that is, that they work much more than they are paid. I am personally satisfied with the pay although I think I could get more for doing the same job somewhere else. However, I have so much work to do that I can barely manage to do everything. I was just wondering if you would choose to have less work and higher pay?

Go interview elsewhere and see what you are worth. It doesn’t cost anything. On the balance, OXY pays in the middle to low end but has good benefits, particularly retirement. Look around and see what’s out there and confirm whether you are underpaid. You will almost always get a small bump changing jobs; but if you are getting offers that are 20-30-40% more, then yeah, you’re probably underpaid. If you are getting offers 10% higher, consider the benefits carefully and whether it’s worth the trouble of starting a new role. We are all interchangeable to oxy, but it’s the same at any company. There’s no reason our employer shouldn’t be just as interchangeable.

Sounds like you have a problem to prioritize your work or you are a poorly performing employee who should be maybe stacking shelves at Walmart?

same boat here. Completely overwhelmed. Good for experience but wish I could do more quality instead of quantity. STEP program promised a lot more time to be creative and learn new tricks. Maybe not for all
