Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Kmart Key Largo

I was there the last day of the Key Largo closing around 6pm on Tuesday. A UPS driver was there trying to make a delivery (presumably third party order shipped to the store). The employee locking the door wouldn't take the stuff because he said it was closing. What a total disaster. Clearly a store with little to no competition near by and some demand yet it closed.

A personal memory about our southernmost US Kmarts: My brother worked on the loading dock at that store when we lived in Key Largo. Back in the day, that store had a great crew, both on the sales floor and in back. All the Kmarts in the Keys were strongly supported by locals and tourists. The Wyland mural on the Marathon Kmart was an attraction in itself.

Kmart and Sears are dead but memories live on.

The store closed because all stores are closing.

Where is the OP going with this? The store is owned by the liquidator. What did you want them to do, keep the store open, even though their only job was to close it? Or something? Not seeing the disaster here. Sv360 did what they were tasked to do. 🤔

Wait, so a store that was scheduled to close on Tues., um, actually closed on Tues, like they were supposed to. And they refused a UPS package because they were closed. Where exactly is the disaster? Am I missing something? Sb360 purchased the store with the exact intention of closing it, so, um, they did what they were supposed to do. Yawn, next.

If the property on the Florida Keys is worth more than the business wonder why they are holding onto the Key West Kmart? Would be a great spot for a Target or 3 (one for each of the Florida Keys Kmarts).

That's right. The land is worth millions.

The store closed because the property that the store sits on is worth more than the business.
Land in the keys sells by the foot..

So sad, right? I am sure they are closing because they lack the infrastructure to support the stores. sad too for those hometown store owners.
