Thread regarding Belk layoffs

GWP, Presell, PWP, Credits, and Emails, Oh My!

“Beauty advisors”- what’s going on in your store? Are you about ready to pull your hair out too? We have 2 people working during the week. One opens and one closes so there’s very little overlap. Majority of returns get sent to cosmetics dept. Having to check out everyone NONSTOP. Returns piling up everywhere. 10+ customers in line and no manager will help. Intense pressure to reach presell goals yet most of my cosmetic customers walk out due to long lines and no help! How can you even call to presell when you don’t have a chance to even breathe? I am at my wit’s end. Meanwhile other associates in the store can only talk sh-t about all of us in cosmetics when they have no idea what kind of responsibilities we have. Sick of being threatened with write-ups for low email capture, bullied by “team leader” who does nothing, and so many overwhelming expectations. For $9 an hour. I don’t know how much longer I can take it. What’s your experience? Anyone dealing with the same?

Sounds so very familiar. Beauty has virtually no inventory. Corporate even had us cover the fronts of the empty cases in vinyl film to make the glass look “frosted” so you can’t see through it.

It’s obvious they’re clearing the warehouses of L’Oreal now. Just enough to keep a few bottles on the otherwise bare shelves.

@1ljt, again, many of us think we are the “go to” for all. I completely understand your angst but believe me , it is shared all around. Most of your points are valid yet we are expected to follow the Belk corporate driven, “One Belk.” It has been one year now since we were brought back to the new initiative. I agree it’s getting old! Hopefully with the most recent in store traffic we’ll see an upside.

I'm in a top 43 store as well and have Been a BA for many, many years. The joy i use to have working in cosmetics, working with and getting know clients is way gone. Between the nicer brands leaving, not having the product in to recommend and sell, to being able to sit customers down and grow meaningful relationships, the entire experience of the Beauty Dept, what made it special is gone. - We are now the 'go to' for overflow of non stop returns, and ringing up clothes sales where you cant give your time to the ones really wanting advise on the product we do still have in our Dept,, and what's even more stressful is all of the Managers constantly hawking and pressing us about the layered metrics we are achieving or not achieving any granted minute of the day.... Just sad sad sad what they've, Sycamore, let happen to Belk...to the 'heart of our store.' I thought i'd retire with Belk. Not happening. Definitely will be gone, before the end of the summer. :(

@awk+1 I work in a “top 43” location. I would never say our team members in the cosmetic department are not dedicated to the overall success of Belk, (especially in troubling times), but there are many others from management, Ops/Mdsg, and previous sales consultants who are now basically cashiers who do the same as you. Thankfully, we are all willing to work together as a team.

Belk is a complete joke!!! Cosmetic associates are the most dedicated associates in the store. Over the past year belk has done nothing but take advantage of us. I make both my credit goal and email goal. (By a lot) Still they treat us like 💩.

My store is the same. I'll have cosmetics, fragrances, accessories, and fine jewelry to myself most days. If i calll for help I'm told to speed up the sales🙄🙄🙄. Cosmetic stock is so low we constantly lose sales due to inventory. People return all sorts of random things to cosmetics which distracts from cosmetic customers and and other task that needs to be done. Im completely over this job atp. The $.22 raise was an insult.

It’s the same at my location. We ring up customers non stop and the rest of the store keeps bringing us more stuff to do so we can’t focus on cosmetic clients. There’s normally only 1-2 people working the department and we don’t have product or time to dedicate to pre sale. Nobody seems to care or check up on us unless it’s for metrics and we have some of the most frustrated customers because of lack of merchandise and associates.

When we bring these concerns to management they brush them off, it’s a lose/lose situation.

Try and get out of there. It's not going to get any better. Don't let it ruin your health and your sanity. Start looking for another job. They're are lots of jobs out there right now. Most will pay more money too.
