Thread regarding Raytheon Co. layoffs

Yes, A New Wave Of Layoffs

Yes, the rumors are true, more massive layoffs coming. Poor Raytheon employees are treated like sheep as they have always been. They are supposed to publicly announce layoffs of this magnitude but management seems unwilling to reveal the truth. So sad.

I worked at the Raytheon Indianapolis facility for 23 years. During that time, there were many, many layoffs. I dodged the bullets but was always feeling like the hammer was going to fall at any time. It negatively affected my health and kept me from getting good sleep at night. I retired in June, and I feel so sorry for the people who still have to endure.

Folks, the Indianapolis Raytheon facility has been host to annual layoffs for over 20 years, dating back to when Hughes acquired (leased) this facility from the city of Indianapolis (and/or US Navy). Some very interesting work here when they have it - very cyclic workload. The problem is the management incompetence. One of my former managers once said,: "I don't need to know how a car works to drive one." .....Get the picture?

No they don’t. They have learned to layoff slowly staying under the legal limit. Simple metric move

He's probably suggesting that since there was no official announcement, this is a false rumor and to move on.

As, this is a forum that discusses layoffs within a particular company what do you suggest “we move on “ to?????

According to the law they have to notify the employees in the event of a layoff. I have not heard "boo". So that being said moving on!

As to the question of “lifting furloughs ”Furloughs are typically temporary restructuring, whereas layoffs involve permanent termination. Furloughed employees often still receive health insurance and other employee benefits; laid-off employees do not. Under Arizona State rule according to WARN Employers must give a furloughed employee 60 days notice As to making their furlough permanent versus lifting furloughs then layoffs can happen immediately; remember they are looking at ways to cut costs to reduce the cost they’re going to do it through unfortunately thru reduced workforce

I think this layoff rumor is cr-p. Someone is starting a rumor just to start a rumor. I have not heard anything and until you hear from a credible source or official announcement, disregard all this talk.

So if we are getting laid off then why did they stop the furlough days? Why would they initiate that action if there was going to be a layoff?

Engineers aren't the ones that are going to get laid off. It is all the others like the support staff ir hourly.

All those engineers and they still can't think logically. It's a scare tactic. Do you job and do it well. Learn everything you can and you'll be ready for your next job. What's all the worrying about. You are qualified engineers with so much talent and experience. Lots and lots and lots of people have found better paying jobs and are being exposed to the latest technology and tools. So you have to think a little in the new job - big deal - that's what the brain is for.

It could very well be an additional 20,000. To my knowledge legacy Raytheon employees were untouched during all those furloughs. It was just Pratt and Collins. I could be wrong but I don’t think so. If that’s the case, then they could easily do another 20,000 within the varying legacy Raytheon branches.

Is this post suggestive of the 63,000 employees furloughed- to be permanently let go - I don’t believe it’s going to be 20,000 additional new job losses -rather- perhaps out of the 63,000 furloughed 20,000 of those will not be asked back ??????? Just my opinion

Yes, they have failed contracts. They are not picking up contracts. You sound like HR.

I love how when a company gets itself into trouble its always the pension or some other employee benefit that is the problem. It never seems to be a leadership's fault.

i think the problem is that the merger was two dysfunctional corporations coming together to try to make a functioning entity. on the UTC side Collins seemed to be doing okay but P&W in deep trouble. This stock buyback nonsense is not good for anyone except Hayes trying enrich himself.

Failed contracts?? They're picking up contracts left and right. There was never any layoffs until this merger so the merger doesn't make sense. There should be very few Hughes people left so all the pensions should be paid off soon. Is that why Raytheon does not have a retirement plan?

Nope Raytheon was in trouble way before UTC merger. Failed contracts, antiquated tech and hypersonics that went to the competition. The PENSION is what is ki----g them. Mismanagement is what will end them,

Still dont understand why Rtn agreed to be sold/merge. If they had that hypersonic technology why would they give that up? If UTC had it and Rtn wanted it why didn't they buy UTC instead of UTC buying Rtn? RTN was fine before this merger/sale and look what is happening now. UTC was in trouble and now bringing rtn down with it.

well if you sat in on the recent Presentation made to investors; you might want to sit up and take notice; there are going to be some well over due very difficult changes in the near future ; they must, otherwise the investors debating pulling out will begin to do so. that’ move will with certainty hurt the company’s bottom line; their stock performance is way down something must be done and done quickly. Now in my defense; I know I sound like some Uncarrying unfeeling individual but let’s be honest it is a company;it is a business it’s being run like an old family company that very well may have worked in the past but it certainly will not work in today’s economy. ( let us not forget the retirement and the pension problem that they’re also currently facing with an aging workforce and not only an aging workforce but a workforce with no education (rather somebody’s child spouse or relative who was hired based on that alone )other than learn on the job ; The numbers of those who might have been getting ready to cash in on that retirement/pension. But now they’re faced with stock that’s dropped basically more than half their pensions aren’t as lucrative as they once were; are faced with the dilemma of not taking that option basically because they just can’t afford it; with their learned ways of procrastination increase scrap it’s hard to see the company pulling up by its bootstraps with this particular workforce yet they seem to be wrestling with how to overcome that::::: that’s an entirely different conversation however must also be addressed
