Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

How much do you feel listened to here?

SF has created an atmosphere of fear. Fear of questioning anything lest you be labeled a non-conformance (and then gigged on performance review). I worked at SF 25 years, then Liberty Mutual (Safeco). LM welcomed challenging questions (unlike SF), their mngt vetted their direction & goals and had more of a bring-it-on and let's discuss. In the end, you may not agree with LM decisions but at least you felt listened to & respected.

@3swp+1aJwl6Xh, I absolutely agree. I have also worked for another insurance company and I can confirm that there is no dialogue at SF.

What do you expect from an industry born from the "street tax"?

Really well, I pass a good idea and management claims it as their own, now I get bothered weekly to send sh-t to innovation center. I’d say they listen and steal very well. Anything less is an understatement lmao.

Either way I’m protected by disability act of 2010 so yeah everything I get asked is usually documented. Along with my ideas being used with no recognition.

not allowed PTO at all , wow that does sound terrible and i cant blame ILR folks from leaving, i know in my department PTO is allowed but its constantly used up in the near future so i have to plan my off days a month out to be able to get a day off that i want , a hassle but at least still an option, i cannot imagine being denied PTO because of the incompetence of Mgnt *cough Emergency not Staffing properly to save a buck.

So SF has turned into a two sided company. Theres what is said, and this is all positive, it all sounds great, they really do CARE about us all. Then theres what the company does in action. This seems to be polar opposite of what is said.

So...are they listening? Yes they are. I do surveys all the time, i submit process changes, give feedback ect. Do they do anything positive with this info? Not in my experience.

For example my department lost a LOT of high end workers to....AILR.....all were told it was a a positive for them, to be flexible. Why you might ask? Well AILR has insane turnover, and SF refuses to hire, and when they do hire, refuses to properly staff to save money. SO the fix to insane turnover is to put high value workers to fill in, without addressing why people flee the department.

So guess what? Now their high value CA's are all getting resumes ready to leave. Why? Well they didnt do anything to make the work less a micromanaged, metric centric environment. A few weeks ago these people were treated like adults, and now everything is an emergency within the department, they cant even get PTO, and have to explain why they went off the phones for 9min to take a dump, which is what a real adult wants to explain to another adult in the work place.

But you know they decorate the office with colorful construction paper, and put board games in the lunch room, you know to make it a fun awesome work place. You dont have time to say hi to a friend but can play board games with randoms in the break room.

So the real issues are being ignored, while things that can be bragged about and cost nothing are implemented to fix a major issue within the company. Just wait until the disgruntled legacy handlers retire and all SF is left with is 2 year handlers with little background and no pension to make them stick around.
