Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

My daughter wants me to get her in

She graduated high school last year and hasn’t found a job. She has no work experience and is going to a community college. I refuse to let her apply to this company because I know how employees are treated. I’ve tried to dissuade her but it’s not helping. She keeps insisting it’ll only be part time and only for a year or two. But we all know how that turns out. A year or two will turn into more and the next thing you know you’ve been here longer than intended. I don’t know what to do to get her to change her mind. Any suggestions? I’ve even told her to try fast food but she refuses to consider it.

We only hire high school students because we can't get anyone else to show up. We are extremely desperate for employees, but anyone who has open availability either never shows up after they were hired or stops coming in after a few days. 3 years with only one floor management/supervisor and district finally decided to hire someone instead of promoting. After two weeks, she stopped showing up. SM is so desperate, he's only hiring high school kids that can only work night for 3 hours, twice a week and is keeping regular employees that are either always late or no call no show.

I can’t believe a Mother is asking this question. She’s going to College Bed Bath and Beyond is a great place to get started. There is nothing soft and fluffy about working at BB&B. It will show her it’s not always easy and create good work ethics! She’s grown it will teach her to have a voice. If someone is not treating her right then she needs to have a voice and speak up! I agree not every store is great and has good morale but there are great Managers that want what’s great for their people. One bad manager can destroy a store. If management is not treating their people good then speak up in a responsible way!!!

Actually, it would cause conflict between you and her. Or have her apply at another store.

lol, as a first job it's fine; in the off chance this is a real post, my store has had several high school kids that kept the job while they started college, and then quit to move on to a job in their field

those who are here choose to stay, for better or (usually) worse, but anyone can leave whenever they want, especially a kid with the future ahead of them

This sounds like an absolutely ridiculous post. I think your daughter at this age can make her own decisions. Not to mention it very rare these days to get a part timer to stay 3 months let alone a year or longer.
