Attrition is at an all time high across this company, and is starting to very rapidly accelerate. It’s going to come down like dominos. People see what’s going on and are not going to sacrifice for a non existent stake in this failing company culture. This will become clearer with the elimination of ESC.

ExxonMobil is driven by a small clique of out of touch, and delusional management at the top that’s bought into this cult of KLTC whether out of self serving interest and/or deep ignorance . Your dept. head can’t save you. Your refinery manager can’t save you. Brad Corson has no meaningful power.

There are no pay increases coming. No meaningful promotions that will empower you to make a difference. And on top of that the company is falling over itself to plug in KLTC/BTC so management can put it on their PDS because they have no clue on actually creating value or how compete!!

The weird thing is they appointed a bunch of group leads last year which added an unnecessary layer of management when the company was trying to cut cost. Now they are dissolving the entire organization.

Makes me wonder if they’ve done their LPSAs before doing that!!

i don't think we are there yet, but it is a bit exciting watch all this unfold. Its like watching a youtube video with a lumber jack chopping at the base of a tree. Morale is dropping, job security vanquished... people can only take so much...

It will be interesting seeing the tree fall down.

Hopefully Imperial is lucky and it doesn't ki-l anyone, like that time the tower collapsed in Sarnia. Total fluke, but hey, at least people were holding the handrail when they were running away. What do i know? I wasn't there watching it happen...

Grab a beer!

@3sat+1aGTl0Jh you are probably a bit too grim for my taste. I don't think we should turn on each other but I do agree that it's not a change most people are energized about from a job security perspective. Being housed at a site, working on global scope, administratively managed remotely (for eng tech), and functionally managed in Houston seems like a less than optimal design for a regional area office. Throw in getting ranked on a global curve and it becomes super destabilizing from a job security point of view (even if that's just perception). I hope maybe they walk it back a bit because it really does not feel "right" and seems to incorporate a lot of different competing maxims and logical inconsistencies. There are positives for sure but there are alternatives for achieving those (technical mentoring) just by informally mentoring and running TKTs like we did in the past.

This is what you get when you don’t have managers. The so called “section heads” at ESC are weak, clueless, helpless. They are being manipulated by their Exxon managers, more of coordinators who cascade the information sent to them my their bosses at Exxon. A typical example of being a “manager” at IOL.
A pathetic, miserable company to work for

there are going to be 1:1 in next week to interview and see peoples flexibility and mobility.

I will say no, not willing to move to a site. Not going to have my life tossed around for the possibility of an additional 1 or 2 years of job security? TMTS is coming out, only reason they want to keep us around is to help get thru the transition, then we are useless... f that! They think we are bunch of id--ts.

If you are not in a tough spot financially and need the money bad, i would recommend everyone say NO and not support this BS. They want courage of conviction, lets give it to them.

I got some ideas... Is Corporate Separateness a law or just best practice?? Obviously having XOM mingling in day to day operations of Imperial Oil (shutting down an IOL department) seems like crossing the line? Any lawyers here?

Also, in Canada there are laws for practicing Engineering. Is this not as simple as filing a complaint or concern with APEGA, and let them do their own investigation ?

Worst case, they find nothing at fault and maybe scare management a bit. Best case, they see an issue and issue some kind of stop order?

Would be good to know others thoughts, especially if any lawyers are here. Im gonna do some research tomorrow and ask my RMs about this kind of stuff, they might know better. Worth a shot.

With the planned salary arbitrage we won't have to report to our KL overlords for long. In all seriousness though... I highly recommend you test the market to see what jobs are available. I personally will be because I anticipate drip feed reductions through the performance system with a preferred targeting of employees in high cost countries for PIP. They just want a slower schedule to ensure staffing up is done in the low cost locations first. Separations on their terms not yours. Good luck to everyone.

Best thing for IOL is for Exxon to sell.

I agree with statements below. Consolidating American Canadian and KL personnel in upcoming ranking sets the stage for the slow drip of 8% cuts where you will see most cuts occurring in high cost locations. Your relative performance but now normalized by your cost. I personally am looking for alternatives because I recognize we are being set up for elimination. Just on a more gradual and convenient elimination basis that ensures the desired locations in Asia are appropriately staffed first.

Its sad to see the state of company where it is, all of us sh-----g on each other... what happened?

We are all fighting each other when the real culprit is XOM. Their d-mb decisions and culture/bs has slowly eroded at the fabric of Imperial. Its like cancer...

Anyway, glad i retired when i did. Sorry for younger folks, you missed out on the good times...

We downstreamers make money for the company - we hussle customers.

The guys in ESC just sit behind desks and get their rocks off on high frequency monitoring blah blah blah

@1lbv+1aGTl0Jh

And you’re not overpaid? That’s why we have high frequency monitoring and PMA. We just need you to press buttons, fill GMOCs, and follow procedures on a screen. What real skills do you have?

Coming from downstream, I often find people in ESC overpaid. Seems like everybody is CL 26 to 27 - no wonder they have to leave Canada and move to lower cost countries.

Esc is dead. KLTC is the future. Check out the new org charts they’ve put together. It’s wild. Says a lot about where Exxon & IOL are headed, and who they’re investing in.

I am not there, but lots of very close friends are.

Getting dissolved and functionally swallowed by EMRE. They were always similar, but there was a line between the two. No longer the case. Long term, the "idea" is to no longer have centralized location in Calgary, and all SME's moved to sites. Assuming most ppl will prob quit or not relocate...

ESC is no longer and will be like the unwanted child. Live at the sites , but not owned by them. Have GLs in Houston, but they don't own ESC either. Administratively, not sure.
