Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

I left after nine years

I left WFM a couple of months ago after more than nine years here. To be honest, it felt like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Once upon a time I loved my work and I respected this company but that has changed so much. By the time I was ready to leave, coming into work was more like torture than anything else. If you're unhappy here, there's life after WFM and it's marvelous!

Wholefoods started going down hill when Walter Robb was put in charge. He allowed all the nepotism and so much more. He really didn't care. JM was pissy because the board made him step away for a while. He knew Robb was screwing up his company and he let it happen. I guess when you have JM money you don't have to care. The problem was he let it go on so long that he ended up being forced to sell. So what does he do? He gives his friend who ruined his company one he-l of a buyout package, sells the company to Amazon while ensuring he gets to stay and screws all of his employees in the sale. Amazon is known for treating their employees poorly. Yes, the wages are good but the benefits now suck and they have cut labor so low that you are worked to death daily. I quit because I was not going to let them burn me out. It was a shame though because I did love my job. WFM was different. Now just another corporation, no big deal. Target and Costco pay good wages as well so why put up with the nonsense of Amazon? If you're going to stay in retail I would suggest those two other wise find another field. WFM is no longer special. Good Luck to all.

Nine years with the company here, and everything you said resonates with me. Thanks for the inspiration. I intend on leaving this circus of abuse soon.

Same! I left after 17 years. Worked my way up to TL but just couldn’t continue. The company culture has completely changed and I had no support from store and regional leadership. Life us so much better now.
