Dateline: Florence, SC
We had write-ups for less: talking to other associates; talking to customers for too long; tape residue on the wrap stands; parking too close to the building; not answering pages fast enough; not staying past scheduled time when "asked" (more to the point, "insisted"!; not making sales goals; having stock in stock rooms (a no-no!); "hiding", a favorite of mine, where a manager can't find you immediately, so you must be goofing off and hiding from work on the clockl...
And, the BIG one: Not Picking Up Plastic Properly!
Remember ROCC the Dock? The Thug-ish Anagram, based on the phrase "Rock the Glock" that made no sense if you read it out-- "Revitalizing Our Customer Care the Dock"..
You were required to strip plastic from rails of garments, let it all pile up and then stoop down on the concrete floor on your knees in servile fashion to gather it in bags. But, not too much, because that is a trip hazard. And, not too little, because that is wasting time.
Welp, some folks chose not to stoop and just stripped handfuls of plastic at a time and shoved it in the big bag, which is a much faster process. The "Trainer" didn't like this one bit, so discipline HAD to be applied.
One of our trainers actually had a meltdown when associates PROVED that her methods were junk and didn't work and some were unsafe (like putting flat carts in the middle of the dock for Home freight, which rolled here and there and caused trips and falls), and, for a time, she refused to communicate or make eye contact, only slit boxes open on the nestaflex. Then, she left and never came back.
Good choice!
