Losing a few people was tough, losing even more has made my work unbearable. I'm trying to keep up the best I can but I'm being pulled in all directions. I need to support and help everybody while I have nobody to help me. Does management care? Don't make me laugh. They all think I should simply be grateful to have a job. I'm at the point where I'd leave even for half the pay I get right now.

Hey "drowning":
There is a future - your future. My parent company was bought out by IBM and for 3 years I was 110% in demand for knowledge transfer. Traveled all over the world many times. Then I slowly realized I was being drained of life. Boiling frog scenario.
So I hear you. You want to do the best you can do. But IBM often asks too much. I made the mistake of working too hard (60hrs+/week) and it wore me out. If I had an older brother, he would have told me to keep a note on hours worked and hours that are yours. Keep them in balance. Good luck.
IBM is a dying company… I am on my way out, just accepted an offer with AWS. Monday, is when I put in my resignation… can’t hardly wait to see my manager’s face as he just gave me a raise and he thought that would keep me at IBM!!!
So long IBM!
4 months since I left on my own. Am getting training and support in my new job, great encouragement from peers and mgmt. Doing well with clients; main difference is that they seem to love working with us - was not the case at IBM.
It's simple. The more work you do at ibm, the more work you get because others will just relax and do politics. Oh and in the end you'll be gone while them managers will remain.
Instead of stressing out, take a leave and plan your exit. Never work more than 30-40 hrs depending on your compensation and put the rest of time in use to leave or enjoy your life.
So this is only possible because I can leave anytime. I don't stress very much at all. That's because the works situation is so beyond insane that I don't pay it any attention. I'm living in the most impossible to get out of war epic ever; the good guys will die without a doubt. There are space aliens examining my automobile right this minute; I can't approach it ever again and there are no buses running and I need to be 200 miles from here. The 8 or 10 FLMs that all think I should report status have a combined IQ of the running shoes I'm going to need if I want to be 200 miles from here. And, in my whole management chain, they are the Mensa candidates.
The point is: the only reason to stress is if you believe you can make things better and, somehow, you're not. But you can't because this place is baked. So...stop worrying about making your managers happy. Start worrying about the rest of your working life.
The two things wrong with what I'm saying are:
- * as it happens, I'm old enough, I've saved enough and dog gone it, people like me (you have to be old enough to get that)
- * Some of IBM's customers really deserve better than this
AK and the rest do NOT care about you. So stop stressing. Take your time. Build an exit plan. Move on.
This is the backlash we all predicted. Actual workers realized the day would come when management looked around and realized there is no company left. Now they thrash about trying to get impossible results without the staff they need. Remaining employees should work for their pay but don't let IBM make you feel guilty if you can't replace 5 or 6 or 20 laid-off employees.
Yes, that is joke... IBM laid off so many people, now we are hiring in C&CS... Was on an all hands call just this morning where the VP had in one of his charts: regretted attrition with a number close to 2% for the US... So, not only people laid off are leaving but also droves of other people that are sick and tired of IBM's stupid policies: no or meager salary raises, no bonuses, no GDP...
Just looking at the IBMers I have on my LinkedIn, I see daily IBMers posting their new certification to AWS or Azure... we all know where these people are planning to go!!!
Can't wait to see the VP's chart next quarter... I will be closely looking at the regretted attrition number! I bet it will go up...
Now, tell me that the VP is not a m o r o n by advertising to everyone that is still here that droves of people are leaving on their own for better pastures!!
Back to my AWS certification... I got to get it done...
The stress and anxiety got so bad I made the decision to retire from this sh-t ho-e. Mgt can’t help because many managers have no idea what their employees do to help make the numbers, they just sit back and collect their bonus / commission.
Can after in this Work load ist increasing, more and more are leaving in volunteer. Management is not interested in fixing this Situation. I guess they are happy getting their numbers
I think there are many of us feeling exactly the same way. I said to my wife this morning that being let go might not be a bad thing as my stress levels are through the ceiling. There have been so many cuts no one knows what is going on. The few people left are having to make up the difference. The attrition rate in this company must look horrific....
