What is the motive behind this move? Cost cutting for the IPO? Are they planning to get rid off Santa Clara office? Or, is the move meant to strengthen and streamline the fab process as they mentioned?

i think its a better commute for Tom .. all the SLT should move or be fired ..
It’s very clear what is going on here. The Prince is ready to sell, Santa Clara won’t be needed, THe OLD USA liar IBM CEO survivor can only stand to be “back East” in the summer and is now ready to retire as he “wraps up business” in the downsizing & sale of the once great Global Foundries…The joke is on you, the survivors who spent the last decade of your lives believing his lies. Good luck! Of course there is one former janitor, dope-smoking, college drop out “trainer” who sucked his way up and may need that mop again….
Kissing up to Chuck Schumer comes too late after bad decisions to reduce the manufacturing capacity and employment in NY State: massive layoffs in 2019, hidden layoffs during pandemic, East Fishkill (former IBM Fab) sell-off to ON, pull-out from Albany R&D Alliance and laying off the R&D team. The latter spot just has been filled by Intel – so good luck competing with INT+IBM for Federal and NY R&D grants. How much help from moving the HQ to the highest in the country Tax rates could bring now? Greedy for IPO stock options -"Après nous le déluge".
Kissing up to Chuck Schumer to get more federal dollars
Political I guess. Sen. Schumer is helping with federal funds.
Lease is up on the Santa Clara building
