Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Pay Rates

Ok, question for those with insight. At my store, there are many long time associates making high dollars. Most of these folks have been former department managers etc that kept their pay, even though they were demoted due to job eliminations etc.
How long will this go on? I don’t make much, yet I’m doing specialist work at half the price. Hardly fair. So when is the jig up? Why am I making $12 and literally the flooring specialist makes $22. Doesn’t Lowe’s realize people like me will quit? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not upset at someone making a decent wage, it’s just so unfair. I would think Marvin would be all over the pay disparity

Dont worry they will let go of $22 an hour associate and put you on for $16 and hire another body to replace you that is worse than you for $12.

The endangered species, the high paid ones, are the ones expected to perform beyond capacity. If they can’t fire you, they’ll make you so miserable that you’ll quit. I know from experience. Left making $22/hr. And from what I hear from those that remain, it has becomes worse since.

The better question is do you have specialist responsibilities? When I was specialist I routinely sold $20k to $40k in flooring on weekends. I sold a lot of special order hard wood flooring, adhesives, floor leveling products, trowels, saw blades, mounding, stair nose, special order tile, carpet.. doing a bathroom, I’d even get the plumbing specialist for the Tub, toilet , fittings...

then they did away with commissions and restructured bonuses. Okay, our carpet rack is back here,... this .78 cent tile is very popular...

The secret of success at Lowe’s is to not make much money. The company has been trying for years to figure out how to rid themselves of specialists, especially high paid ones. Trust me on this.

Every store pays different wages for the same position.

Your comments are irrelevant , you want to be paid 22 apply for the job . We need to use common sense if you fill the gaps or hep in those departments but you are CSA you going to be paid like CSA period . You know as much as the specialist? Congratulations you are ready to apply for the job and take more responsibilities .

Don't assume that all specialists are making top dollar. Been with the company about 15 years with nearly all of those working as a specialist and not even making $19 an hour. Was making a lot more before the company reneged on the allowance, and vastly higher when we were being paid commissions & department bonuses. Back then we were started at a very low base pay and sold the bill of goods that if you worked hard your pay would reflect it. For a long time that was true. Not so much any more. Specialists are now constantly under the microscope whereas CSAs are not. My advice is don't make Lowe's a career as you have no guarantees that your hard work will ever be rewarded or that your position is ever secure.

Don"t sweat it, any high dollar help is already on the endangered species list.

It seems unfair until you land a specialist job. Apply for a specialist position or if none are available than continue to work hard and wait for an opening. Some specialists worked part time for years before becoming one.

They will start writing people up for performance to get rid of them and hire in cheap labor. If the management doesn’t comply, they will get fired.
