All these years that I have been here, I have tried to do my job conscientiously and to do my best. The amount of work used to be smaller but there were also times when I barely managed to finish all the obligations. Either way I always tried to make everything perfect.
And then they laid off a man who had been there since I started working here and who was a top expert for whom I thought there was no chance of ever being laid off. I learned a lot from him all these years. Every since then I don’t try at all anymore, because I see now that we are all replaceable. Only the bare minimum.

Why try harder when they keep moving the goalposts
I used to over achieve and even help entire team out give support , take escalations which i should not do as it is a Managers job but i still did them, then the person that sat behind me that had been at the job for 3 months got the same rating (and raise) i did .... the person i had to constantly help that is when i realized its not worth it, and so now its all average production and nothing more.
overachieving only ever got me more work while newbie got same raise i did for 25% of the work.
I just do what’s necessary. Middle of the pack on Average tasks. Doing nothing to draw attention . I could average more than anyone on my team every week, but why? Get the same raises, don’t have to kiss behinds, and less stress. They lull you into mediocrity.
@1qob, this is it 100%. I can understand what drives an employee to play games but if you play games and get caught you get fired. One anomaly can be explained but a pattern is what gets all the reports running and then it is inevitable you will be caught be it phones or tasks or timecards, etc.
you mean he got fired right? they havent done layoffs. sometimes the best people play games and get caught, ive seen it myself. everyone who does, gets caught cheating the system eventually.

When you realize that it’s NEVER going to be enough, it’s easier to let it go.
