Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

How much can the way you left here affect getting your next job?

I recently left this company in a very ugly way (I didn’t sue Pepsico, but I wanted to do it) and now I’m afraid it will affect my employment in the new company. Someone tells me that it has nothing to do with it and that the way I left here cannot affect my future employment. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I can only speak to what’s legally permitted in NY. IDK if it’s a law in other states.... an employer can only confirm information you provide to your new or potential employer: years of service, salary, title. If you’re in the job market, it’s best to retain the services of a private company who will check your job references for you. I did this and found out about the BS my former manager was saying and I was able to sue the company (& won) because I had all of my annual reviews that indicated my exemplary performance. & BTW - I later heard the former manager was eventually dismissed.

Most employers would do a background check and as long as “it got ugly “ wasn’t anything with HR was involved with you should be good as usually background checks go to HR for a very basic check.

However some employers want references and speak to a former manager etc so that’s when it gets tricky but again really depends on your future employer and how much they like you.

I had probable cause to actually sue pepsi and I am sure pepsi would have lost , but just didn’t want to deal with the company anymore and the legal fight isn’t worth it really. So would just stay away from that not for Pepsi’s sake but just your sanity

It depends how long you were with Pepsi. If you were with the company let's say more than 5 years, they are going to call. Pepsi will either say you're re-hirable or not.

Whether you were terminated for cause or not, you will just need to have a good “story” to tell about your accomplishments and the skills you gained during your time at PepsiCo. You don’t have to go into detail about how or why you left but you should have something prepared to say about it. Never speak negatively about previous employers. Plenty of people have been fired or quit jobs and have found new opportunities that make them happier. Don’t give up.

Good question...I am only looking here because I worked at Pepsico for 20 years before they layed me off 3 years ago. I then went to another company, just as big , but way more incompetently managed, even though they build airplanes ( believe it or not) . It was unreal, but I put up with it for a year and a half and then one day after I was verbally abused by another employee I went to the useless manager really upset and started to complain. The useless manager was not going to do anything about it and then we got into it, nothing more than raised voices going back and forth, and I finally reached my limit with this clown and said, fine, I'll leave this slop-shop and went back to my desk and typed up my 2 week notice and gave it to this useless manager. They said "fine" you can leave now, which I did, but I continued to get paid per my 2 week notice. What do you mean by "it got ugly" ?
