I wasn't surprised at all about the store closures. Anyway, I’m anxious and I wonder what will happen when they start cuts. How many people will be impacted?
On the other hand, some believe that not that many people from the stores will be let go. I am not sure about that. Any thoughts?

It’s looking a whole lot like those hometown experts are being put close to third party stores.
People working on Metro side and TMO DM's, definitely
yep. There is ZERO reason to support the dealer channel anymore. ONE regional auditor is all that's needed. Massive layoffs coming soon to the prepaid channel........
Big shifts from prepaid to postpaid happening in wireless outside of TMO. Even then, TMO is still capturing majority of prepaid growth and doing so much more cost effectively. Quit whining. Get on board or leave. We don’t need all these dealers and people supporting dealers anyway. Metro phones going into T-Mobile stores anyway. This is happening about six years too late IMO. Big push in rural America thanks to Sprint takeover.
If you work on the magenta side you don’t know Metro. At this point since Jonny F ruined the brand, AGAIN, they should cut it... Heck, they have Ryan Reynolds with the new prepaid MINT. Good enough. Magenta employees are easily brainwashed so don’t let go of any of them. They don’t want folks who think for themselves so you fit in and have job stability. Follow that career path. You have to take a few steps back to take a few steps sideways to get laid off.
Time for ALL people working on the Metro side to go. I've been on the magenta side now for over 2 years so I know both sides very well. There's literally nothing for zm's and MDM's to do anymore. I keep hearing the same thing over and over : "All they do is give me the numbers, then they're out of here" or some variation of that.
And Freier said - loud and clear - that it's ONE team and we all work for TMO.
Yet...they continue to refer to themselves as " Metro", "we're Metro, not magenta", etc in direct violation of Jon's word. Hear this from multiple markets just in our region. Hear it from counterparts of mine in other regions. BIG layoffs coming for those guys if not a complete erasure.
Agreed that likely TMO district mgr count gets reduced soon and give the remaining higher store counts (like 10+ versus the 6 or 7 they currently have) and zone managers for metro likely to go away completely and reduce MDMs and give the remaining MDM much higher store counts (just use them to audit on a rotational basis)
Also at the very top of the listen with DM's and Metro people, are all of the regional Marketing people. Our national marketing dominates at this point, local Marketing people have now been rendered completely obsolete. Dinosaurs. Just like Metro staff.
I would agree with the last person, don't worry, and start searching.
The worst feeling in the world especially if you have a family. Will I provide for them? Get your stuff together and don’t wait for it to happen. The culture that was built over the years got it to this level. That has changed. Culture is gone. This was a great place to be, not so much now in my opinion. The worst part is the lies on conf calls. But I guess that’s any business. 5G would have been nice if it weren’t for COVID. Totally disrupted. Can’t even get the parts needed. It may come back but I doubt it. B2b is an option since everything is going remote. It was really hard and there were dark times waiting for the phone to ring for future interviews. Lots of people unemployed going for a few positions. I’m not trying to bring you down, I just suggest to move forward and don’t work in fear. Read the other telecom boards. No different there. People who performed at high levels were let go. Mostly From the acquired companies I believe. if it’s not this qtr, will it be next? Control your life and find your happy place. Believe it or not, it’s out there, you just have work harder right now to find it. Good luck!
I'm a DM with low tenure. Rumors heating up that alot of DM's will be let go this year. We don't have enough stores to be responsible for. Pretty sure I'll be let go, I've started looking already.
Probably not many from retail stores. On the chopping block will definitely be TMO district managers as there's way too many of them now, even before a reduced store count. Metro zone managers could be entirely erased and look for more Metro MDM's to be given their walking papers too - also grossly overstaffed
Unsure about office staff.
