It took me a little over a year to realize that there is no career development potential here. It’s a horrible feeling considering I immediately realized I needed to look for a new job. Why did I think differently before I applied for a job here? Probably because I didn’t inquire enough about this company, I didn’t look for information in the right places. It is a mistake I will not repeat again.

There is actually good career potential if you decide to go into management. Technical skills don't matter much, just make sure you are super good at "managing up". Kissing up and sh*tting down are "must have" skiils to have. Nobody in your group will have any respect for you, and laugh behind your back every time.... but then who cares......you will get promoted every 2- 3 years...just like clockwork.
Typically it takes 8-10 years to get to a Technical manager (T5) level and getting to a Lab manager (T6) is rather straight forward. For reference, the average employee will retire or rather get laid off ( very common these days) at a T4A level, even after 25- 30 years of hard work in the lab.
It's even harder when you know you are the best candidate for the post but your face doesn't fit. Code of conduct tells us to be honest and speak up. So untrue.. If you are not a yes person then you will not progress..
