Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Is it just me or is it common at Oxy....

My time at Oxy I always thought it was funny how male counterparts were always congratulated for whatever successes they had and invited to lunches with managers, but female counterparts were typically told how lucky they were to have a job and rarely included in the bro camaraderie. Even with a female CEO.

As my wife would comment, many times, after a long meeting at work: "Too many females in the room"

Last time I checked the genders are different in how they naturally bond together in social, even in work social situations. It is getting very complicated rather than more simplified these days. I agree that there is no excuse to not be friendly to others because of differences.
By the way there were many times I wanted to be included in the ladies lunch club but they never offered me an invite. Oh well, I wouldn’t have understood what they were talking about anyway.

Loving all the men in the posts telling us it doesn’t happen L O L. You BROS have no idea and that’s the problem.

How old are you? That is a very naive attitude about the realities of the world. Watch out for yourself, blow your own horn, and promote yourself respectfully but don’t hurt others in the process. That is how the work world works.

Bottom line is networking is helpful but it shouldn’t be necessary for a quality employee to have a good career and get recognized if they deserve it. Managers should be responsible for looking out for and supporting their employees.

it is exactly the opposite.

You are not networking with the right people. I thought there were special lunches for your gender set up for networking. But of course with the work from home it just isn’t the same. It will be better for you once you get back to the office. Don’t give up.

Everyone below that says this does not go on must be in a cave. Males are favored at Oxy. Anytime I mention this it gets magically deleted. I have experienced it countless times.

maybe people just don't like you and don't want to spend their lunch hour with you ...

Not sure what company you are referring to. Where I work, there is respect and fair game for everybody. And that doesn't mean we don't have fun.

Very very common.
Always has been, it’s like a third world country culture when it comes to diversity.

Agree! It’s the ‘good ole boys’ club. If a woman goes in and asks for a well deserved promotion, she’s tagged as whiny and greedy. If it’s a guy, he’s praised for standing up for what he wants...and usually gets it.

It definitely happens but not in all departments / groups. You just have to hope that your managers have enough training and cognizance to recognize it and make sure the camaraderie doesn’t exclude you from consideration for promotions, special assignments etc. If you have a bunch of bros in one organization it’s definitely harder to get recognition. Just human nature.

I haven’t experienced that. In fact just the opposite.

Poster couldn’t be more on the money, most of us feel that way. Don’t let the bro’s get you down

There haven’t been any lunches in almost a year. But, it is your warped perception.
