Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Anyone counter offer their severance?

Just wondering if anyone has made a counter offer? I’ve talked to a lawyer after getting a really bad offer and they recommended a counter offer of double. I’m just nervous because they can then pull the original offer.

IOL severance package rate is not equal for all. Some got 3 weeks, some got 2.5 weeks each year of service. Some might got more, I don’t know. When I asked them the basis of calculation incompetent manager and his boss didn’t provide me the answer. They told me to go to a lawyer if I want to. My time was way valuable than IOL dumb puppet Managers, so I didn’t.

If you are not satisfied with your package, go to a big shot lawyer in the city who can claim and get something for you. Engaging cheap lawyer won’t help at all as Imperial has their own lawyers. For big case they also hire big lawyer as their own lawyers are worthless like their managers ( power point presenter and pretender, only know how to hold handrail!).

After receiving the package money, don’t forget to complain about CEWS (Canadian employee wage subsidy Package) to both federal and provincial govt. Imperial misused this fund as it was given only to Canadian employees to sustain their jobs. However, Imperial use this money for upper Management profit bonus, stocks, cheap location overseas employees and for shareholder. Govt will audit this ASAP as soon many ex employees notify to the authority. Everyone should do their part.

Unlike XOM and other affiliates, IOL severance calculations were hush-hush and not posted on the HR site, which meant they didn’t use the same severance calculation for everyone so they could screw people over.

Sure, severance isn't mandatory.

But most big companies want to have a policy that the stick to, otherwise it opens them up to lots of legal aggravation.

If you get at least 3 weeks per year, it is not a bad offer. Though, if you only have 1-2 years of tenure, you may be able to fight for a bit more....

Isn't the offer based on a policy that is applied equally to people in the same categories (tenure, salary)?

Most major companies won't do severance on an ad hoc basis, like, oh, we like Jim, let's give him a year's severance. But, we don't like Bill, so we'll offer him two weeks severance.
