Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Former Lancôme/Belk associate

I could write a book on why I left this company... I was there for 6 years and left a little over a month ago. The only reason why I stayed those years was for Lancôme. Belk is not a good company to work for. They do not care about what little employees they have left. All good brand merchandise are gone or leaving, we never got ANY stock in cosmetics. I visited the store last weekend and was appalled by the lack of product. Not enough registers open. Their priority is bopis/curbside (which is 80% of their business.) so there’s not enough help to assist customers who are IN the store. I was just recently told that all L’Oréal will be exiting Belk. No more Lancôme, polo Ralph Lauren, etc. I’m sure eventually all cosmetics will exit. The cosmetic world at Belk is NOTHING like it used to be. And I don’t see it getting any better.

Belk is still a very nice place to visit and shop. They have door busters and you can save a lot off the original price. The store in Gadsden, Alabama has some exceptional employees who take pride in their job. I would recommend shopping in their store.

It is so sad to see Belk in such a decline. I loved going to their flagship store every year when I was in Charolette visiting family. No telling what it looks like now. Once the store was sold by the Belk brothers, everything went downhill and fast. I was in a store in Branson, MO in August 2021 and it looked like a liquidation store. It was awful....and really a sad state of affairs, to say the least. In the past, this store was filled with merchandise, now it looks like a Name Brand Clothing warehouse store. Finally, their "brand" Crown & Ivy - is total cr-p.

I am saddened by the way the "new" Belk is being done. For a southern store that has spanned many generations, why are they messing things up!!! There is no help when you need it and it's beginning to look like a discount store with the registers lined up in a row! Lancome is now gone and that is sad as that is a high quality product. The atmosphere is cold. Soon smaller towns will have no place to shop. This didn't have to happen! I hope these new owners wake up before it's too late. I have spoken to so many people who are now unhappy with Belk...a once loved destination for a shopping spree!

I bought Este Lauder. Paid $95 for perfume and you can’t even smell it.

I worked for Parisians and Belk for a total of 21 years. Belk is the worst company to work for. The company has no respect for the customers or the associates. I never understood what the mission was. They should go out of business because they have become a sad junk store. Shame on you Belk company for ruining a great concept.

80% of their business? I’m a manager and sadly it only accounts for 10% of our business. Fulfillment does not need a salaried manager and 6 associates to find $4.99 Kim roger shirts and $2.99 earrings. This company is beyond ridiculous.
