Michigan Layoffs and Long Term Unemployed with Masters Degree

This is from the perspective of Michigan (Business / Finding Jobs / Automotive and Teaching )
I am glad this is anonymous.

There are so many job postings, however it seems like they are from recruiters all posting similar listings about the same job. Research cannot be accurately conducted on the # of listings as it really needs to be divided by 3 to account for the vast number of recruiters all trying to find a body to make commission on. For the unemployed, it is disheartening. For information. If someone is making around $33/Hour via an Employment Agency/Contract Worker that is just under $70K per year. But, they do not know that if their employer lets the contract workers work less and leave days before a long holiday, or extended shutdown they do not get paid. The $32/Hour assuming in the mind of the worker will be $33x40x52 = $69K is not what really happens. It is safer to assume that $33/Hour X 40 Hours/Week x 47 weeks per year is really $62K . Depends on the agency, but often they will not pay vacation or have an arrangement it is paid the next year if you stay. It is something to think about. No bonuses, or matching 401K's either. After working in this type of atmosphere for years, it is not something I recommend.

Also is the fact that someone with 20 years experience in business can't go back to school or do an alternative path and get into teaching at the high rates that 20+ year teachers are at. Look up a teacher name and you will see salaries over $70K, $80K and alot of them even are over $90K with 20 years experience at different districts in Southeast Michigan. How can anyone complain about earning that? Not everyone is a Cyber Coder making $100K the first year out of school, or a Dr. So, teachers are giving students an unrealistic view of the real world, if they even grasp it.

It appears Teachers are starting out around $35-$40K, and is not the entire year! I do not believe they realize the real world. In the real world, you don't get months off, and if working via an agency you are paid only the hours worked. No Vacation/Holiday, etc. and have you heard of a "furlough"

Have teachers every really been faced with unemployment?

Seriously, Biden Admin please allow more educated people to go into teaching as an alternative path that does not include starting pay of $30K or $40K that is unrealistic and only comparable to your $15/hour Min Wage. $15/Hour is around $30K Salary.

That is what people 20 years ago hoped to make out of college. Now, with a Masters Degree we can't pivot to get into Education at a reasonable pay. We would be starting at the bottom. It does not make sense. Even Government Programs are discouraging anyone from going into Teaching since the pay will be low.

You do a thorough and lengthy analysis.
But - Michigan.
Somehow - for some reason - denying all reason,
it's a Swing State.

That's show-biz.
