50% - After More Work, Less People, More Stress, We Get Less

Way to go Oxy! You came in and reduced LAPC bonus targets, laid off many people, won't re-staff positions from people leaving/retiring/quitting so we all have more work to do, less time to do it, working from home (many more hours than normal office work), and after these statements of all the cash flow being generated by these conservation efforts and how the employees sacrifices saved the company, we get a 50% of target for a bonus? A target that's already been reduced from LAPC days?? Better than 0, but seriously, you guys need a course in employee motivation and morale... sad!

Let's break this down.

The spoiled nature really means relative to other industries and not within Oxy. The entire oil industry has been spoiled. In what other industry do you get high salaries, big bonuses, great benefits, every other Friday off, credit for industry experience when figuring vacation, and extended timing for back to the office.

In order to recruit talents in any industry, companies must provide competitive compensation. This is not "spoiling" anyone.

And you don’t really work much harder than people in most industries. You are just in high demand. By the way are you getting every other Friday off even with the work from home? Now that is spoiled.

This what you don't understand. Hard work, producing high quality output and receiving fair pay and receiving bonuses is part of the appeal of the industry. We didn't go to school and spent tens of thousands of dollars in school to join a mediocre company.

Again, if you feel that you don't deserve a bonus for your work, consider working harder, smarter so that you too can take pride in your career.

LAPC employees are entitled and spoiled, but very few of them actually add value.

I am glad and disappointed at the same time. The gladness is that Oxy is giving something of a bonus, and the disappointment is from them foregoing the performance review and giving everyone the same bonus.

The new performance write up took some of my coworkers and I a couple of days to complete and we all can see that some of us worked much harder than others. HR and management, if you're ever reading this board, know that this is not okay. Most of us bust our butts off to keep this company afloat from the ground up and you must know this. We are busy, and a lot of times overwhelmed and overworked. Don't roll out new programs that take a lot of our time and thoughtfulness to complete and NOT USE IT.

I won't say that I'm grateful for the 50% bonus because I and my team worked so hard to EARN it, but I am glad that you're doing the right thing by giving us something.

It is NOT being spoiled to expect something that is EARNED. Some of you who are saying it's being spoiled to expect a bonus OBVIOUSLY don't work very hard to feel like you've earned a bonus. Unlike you, most of us take pride in the quality of the work we produce and the extra time we all put in to compensate management's hiring freeze. You lazy bums need to work harder to feel like you earn your bonus and stop criticizing hard working folks. Grow up.

@uje+19xIT3RC Those packages have been paid out. All the lameness Oxy is at now is based on its decisions. When the decision makers s—, well the company will have to s— as well. No "hope" is going to really make anything really any better. Keep your options open and don't ever, and I repeat ever, be hopeful that Oxy will be good to you for being good to Oxy. It's a facade at best.

I don’t mind company contribution at 50%. Understandable. I DO mind my contribution having no value.

They did you all a disservice by giving you a nice bonus last year. It got you thinking a good bonus was coming this year. The bonus last year should have been just as low as this year based on the company financials. And one person at the top should not have gotten their salary raised to 1 million dollars this year while giving the workers 50% bonus. That is terrible and you should all revolt by walking the dog more while working from home. What a f—ed up mess this corporate world is now. Get back the office where you can control things more.

First of all, no one is complaining about getting money. Read and understand what people are saying. What is the motivation to work harder than the people that do the bare minimum? We didn’t get ratings and we all got the same bonus. People that did great should get a better bonus, otherwise this is communism.

Fine. Leave.

LAPC didn’t have to endure the 30% salary reductions last year. Poor babies got a 4.9% reduction, with oil prices in single digits and teens.

Considering the financials COVID shutdowns brought to 2020, 50% of target is definitely more than I expected.

APC employees should be content just knowing they have been embraced by Oxy’s warmth.

But did you guys really think you would get 100% or more in such a terrible year? That is the issue as I see it. To even think you would get a bonus is out there, but to think you would get 100% plus is just not realistic. I have been at Oxy for a few years and have seen really good bonuses that surpassed anything I ever thought I would get, and on par with APC. I really thought there would be zero this year, and 50% is much better than zero. I don't think you would have even seen much more than that at APC during these times.

@clz that’s exactly what came to my mind as well. Not well thought out to try to subject a bunch of Texans to communist practices.

@yoj+19xIT3RC “OXY is going to lose some talent now”... spoken like a true millennial. Like your not replaceable? OXY will have no trouble replacing your A$$. There are literally thousands of people who would love to have your job. Adios amigos.

why does everyone get the same %?

From a high performer that puts in 12 hrs/day to someone who received a 4 or below ranking and could be due for a PIP, everyone gets the same percentage.

At least make it 45%-55% based on performance, just on principle. We are not cuba

Looks like HR posters trying to influence this post and replies. Hey Oxy HR, lay yourselves off, so we can get a bonus without putting up with your worship of VH. By the way, there's something on your nose.

You are forgetting that total compensation is a tool used to tune the number of highly paid technical employees the company has. It is market driven. They are hoping for attrition so don’t think that you will quit with the attitude “I will show them”.

You people need to get hold of yourselves. What a bunch of spoiled children. Most of you are paid twice what you are worth. Kept your jobs through a pandemic and now complaining because your bonus isn’t big enough. What a bunch of overindulged, pampered, narcissistic babies! Boo hoo...

I think most folks were going to hold off testing the job market until after Oxy announced what bonuses would be to see if they would try and make up for all the extra work/role transfers/paycuts that employees had to endure to keep Oxy afloat last year. After this disappointing announcement, I think Oxy is going to be losing some talent now that prices have stabilized and companies are starting to hire again.

The harsh reality is setting in for us LAPC. We kept hoping things wouldnt be be as bad as OXY says. 50% of an already reduced target is a painful slap compared to years past. It’s the difference between happy dedicated employees and trapped, half-a—ing it employees. And spare me the “well go ahead and quit then” speech. I busted my —- in 2020 with an open mind for my new company. Now we know there is absolutely no motivation to step up your game or give 110%.

Wait, I thought we were over staffed and need to do layoffs. I’m content with 50% of target given how this year has been for all oil companies.

500K dead Americans and this pandemic is still here and for some reason you even think you deserve a bonus. If APC was still around you would be lucky to get a bonus from them as well. I just can't believe the entitlement people have these days. Just unreal.

I’m getting REAL tired of all the “woe as me” from the LAPC side on this site. That gravy train of a package and reckless spending is why you all got bought out to begin with. Time to put your big boy pants on or get out, none of the LOPC folks want to hear it.
