Cosmetics Dept Changes

My store is cutting all counter managers except the big 3 (Lauder, Clinique and Lancome). “Beauty Advisors” will now handle all of the other brands and counter manager duties but no raises will be given. Anyone have anymore details on cuts or what’s going on with the beauty dept?

1 full time and 1 part-time was eliminated from Lancome. They will move an Estee Lauder counter manager over to fill the 1 position open now on Lancome.

I lost my position yesterday. I can NEVER see them as the beauty authority. Those days are gone for department stores.

Good luck with that, Jeff.

Does anyone know the date this goes into effect? Is it March 1 or earlier?

No it's not "old news" for the stores. Maybe you were in a pilot location, but this was an "out of the blue" hit for just about everyone.

All counter manager titles went away. There will be a Prestige Leader position. No one lost their jobs in my store, just a title and where they are zoned in the department. No one eligible for severance in my store either.

This email was sent last night,

Stores Beauty Service Model Update

As our customers’ needs continue to evolve, we’re reimagining Macy’s Beauty to better align with thedemands of our business, elevate our customer experience, and support future growth. Today, weannounced an updated Beauty service model in our stores, which included changes to how our Beautybusiness operates.

We’ve introduced a new staffing model anchored by highly trained, dedicated colleagues and
specialized teams within Fragrances, Trend, and our newly added Prestige selling team (across all
doors, with the exception of Herald Square) to allow for more flexibility. This model will be
different depending on the location. Variables like volume thresholds and assortment mix were
considered, and as a result, our stores may have a combination of the following: Trend team,
Fragrance team, Prestige team and / or line assigned staffing.

Similar to our Trend and Fragrance areas, our new Prestige selling team will be trained across
multiple brands to help customers in Prestige Cosmetics and throughout the department, as business needs dictate.

Alternatively, line assigned colleagues will remain assigned to a specific brand. These colleagues
will continue to be responsible for driving sales in their home brand, while also servicing the
customer across the department.

We are confident that this elevated service model will continue to position us as the authority in
Beauty, offering our customer more of the brands she wants with unique experiences, opportunities to discover products, and value that keeps her coming back.

We look forward to continuing the roll out of our reimagined Macy’s Beauty vision in stores, and we
appreciate your support to better serve our customer.

Thank you.

I was “re-zoned” today to a different department within beauty/fragrance, but was told no more information. I work in a higher volume store, but I believe our location will also be following the two general group model (i.e. fragrance & cosmetics). I vaguely remember talk about this before COVID hit. We shall see????

I also lost my position from Lancôme today. No one left in the department has cosmetic experience. The store manager said there will be 2 generic groups selling everything. 1 fragrance and 1 cosmetics. My store is small so hopefully it’s not every store .

Belk is losing Lancome and all L'oreal lines.
Rumour is Lauder not far behind.

Department stores no longer fit into the business models of cosmetic lines.

But you want a stock tip? Buy Ulta.
