I've been with the company since 1988.... several years ago I guess you could say the Captain position was the modern day "white flower"... now adays it is all you see. No more supervisors, no more leads, no more assistant managers, but plenty of "captains". I don't know what the fascination of the nautical title is about, but nevertheless it is very fitting. Macy's is indeed a ship. A SINKING SHIP!-

They're the Dwight schrutes of the company
Captains are just people who most of the time deserve a promotion but the company knows they can just pay them hourly and have them do things salaried executives normally do. It’s a great way to save the company money, I don’t agree with it since it’s pretty dishonest but hey I’m not Jeff
The “captain” is just a made up position for an associate who will do lots and lots of work with no additional benefits/pay. It is a way to blow someone's head up while saving money
No, they are fascinated with reducing everything to bear rubble. I am sure they realize the predicament they are in but decide to ride the wave until the hull falls off. No company can get rid of good hardworking people and remain relevant. It is almost impossible. They got rid of most of the top talent and expect to survive.
