Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

I'm wondering...

I just have to ask…for those who were laid off from M - would you still be there or would you have moved on by now? Personally - I don’t think you would have moved on. Why else would most of the comments be from former employees who are still angry that you’ve been let go. As for me, I’m not going to be angry if I’m next on that list. Some people are built differently.

Not sure what your point of this question is? Of course those that were Laid off are upset. We are in the middle of a pandemic with no end in sight and millions of people are still out of work. This was also Macy's way to get rid of the ones Management did not appreciate. I hope you don't have to go through this, no matter how relaxed you seem to be about the prospect.

This pandemic has change the landscape in retail. Sooner or later Macy's will file for bankruptcy, it's just the matter of time.

I was let go on June 25th/26th because of the COVID-19 pandemic and yes, I was pretty p-ss-d off. Anyone would be hurt and angry when they've been laid off. I'm working in Macy's again. I was hired back again in October as a seasonal, but seasonal is going on much longer than I thought. I thought seasonal ends by New Years Day in early January or at least by the end of January. I'm trying to apply for other jobs because I forgot how sh– Macy's is.

I got laid off last year. I got offered a job from Macy’s that was a step down by the end of the week that I had been laid off (meaning I was forgoing severance payout) and I accepted it because the jobs I had been applying to were offering way below what I was making and It didn’t make sense to take a pay cut if I didn’t have to. (I had started applying months before so I had interviews lined up that week already).Fast forward a month later and covid hits and I go on furlough/unemployment for months. I came back the week that they did the end of July cuts only to find out that I hd a job but it was yet another step down from what I had before. Before I even had a chance to react I was told to be grateful to have a job and that I could not opt for severance from them. So I shut up and took it because I had zero options at the time and they didn’t cut my pay.

I am relieved to have found a job somewhere else as staying at Macy’s was proving to be mentally and emotionally draining. It’s not that the job is hard, it’s that they have stripped you of most resources necessary to do the job and have the same expectations as before. Explain to me why there were still district visits with formal presentations when the stores were in shambles and scrambling to operate. I do not understand the lack of understanding from top management and I can’t imagine that it’s gotten much better.

I hope you all find a way out of you are still there. It’s better to find a way out on your own than to be kicked out with a sh–ty severance after years of being overworked.

Thank you, Terry Lundgren for being more worried about trying to make himself a celebrity than trying to successfully run a major department store. He has changed the lives of so many!

If you actually work for Macy's, then you should already know plenty of people laid off and don't need to post on a site like this to get answers to your question. Secondly, if they didn't get laid off, I'd assume they'd still be working there, they didn't leave on there own. Finally, most I know who were laid off are thankful they were set free from a company being run into the ground. I'm sure there making more on unemployment than they were at Macy's. Its a shame what's happened at Macy's.

Macy’s is doomed. It’s just a matter of time it’s your choice to stay. But it’s also your health
