Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

Wait for severance pay?

A colleague and a good friend of mine was convinced that he would be fired, everything pointed to that, so he decided to wait for severance pay. Just because of the severance pay, he decided to miss a great chance at another bank, after which, ironically, he got a notice. Given the general situation in the banking sector, I’m not quite sure that chances that he had (and missed) often happen.

I know one coworker who was very lucky to find a new job and get her serverance package too.
She was given 2 months notice and started job hunting.
She was lucky to interview for a new job which she started 5 days after being laid off, and
get her serverance package too.

But being able to find a new job and still get your serverance package is very rare.
Yes its very tempting to try and get both but not worth giving up a new job.

Let’s see.... wait for a few months severance or take a new opportunity with benefits and 401k plan. Wow, I’m embarrassed that you need to ask what to do. 30+ million unemployed and you want to wait to see if you get severance?

Yeah, wait for the severance, u lazy excuse of an employee.

I’ll never understand people who would rather get laid off and get a small severance vs. a potential chance at a
Job that could last as long time with opportunities and benefits.

If your get FIRED you do not get severance pay.

You only get severance pay if you are LAID OFF
