The whole was dropped about March 2020. The banks that were going to loan Carl the money, backed out of the deal when they found out what was going on. At the same time HP had some top lawyers ready to fight the hostile take over should it get any further.
I have no idea where you could have heard that from but its absolutely false.

No it wasn’t big over the summer, you’re out of the loop - management put out a public statement that the whole thing was dead shortly after covid hit in the spring.
