3 years ago today. Dumbest decision BN ever made.

Some Mgrs called BN it Black Monday-
Get ready for Black March !!
Can’t wait to see the humiliation the managers face when the stores close.
They were treated horribly after their dedication and years of service. I don’t blame them one bit for taking great delight on Barnes’ downfall since they were fired.
I too left soon after February. Things no longer ran smoothly and each day was putting out one fire after another.
The word is out on Barnes managers. No one will hire them.
Below- BEST description of what happened Feb. 2018.from previous poster.
2 Mgrs. Admitted they knew at Christmas , this was going to happen. As it got closer it was shared with many store Mgrs.( and Booksellers) GOOD Mgrs had time to juggle employees to save jobs. SHI**Y Mgrs just watched and contributed to disrespecting and embarrassing those fired. You want to know why such animosity ?
Yes management did know ahead of time. Time enough that decent managers moved employees they wanted to keep to other positions. And other managers- they just let it happen, LYING, that they didn’t know . In our store I was Cafe AM when it happened . The Cafe manager told me about it about a week before it happened. ALL the managers in my store knew. She told me ahead of time. How many others shared the news. The day it happened most of the store knew except those being fired. We tried a couple times to get everyone to go out & meet up and only one of those fired showed up. The others , we worked with, knew well outside of work, upon hearing from some “ yeah, I knew “ no longer wanted anything to do with us. Looking back, can’t blame them. What kind of person doesn’t have their back, after they had yours, in some cases for years.
They were treated horribly. And a lot of us just watched them humiliated without a heads up. I quit BN a couple months after. The place was never the same.
I quit soon after too. The SM & ASM were disgusting. Treated good people like criminals to deflect what they were doing to them.

Management all knew what was happening, they the management and the company could have offered people different jobs or ask if we wanted to go to part time- BUT NO, let's just get rid of them like we do with the trash! Many of us have already got our revenge.
I didn't know they disrespected the career full time employees like that when they fired them. Some uninformed people will post things like “ get over it” but that must be why they hold such animosity toward the company . Not just firing them but treating them like criminals.
When I was escorted out I was looked at by my now ex peers like “what did she do?” By time I reached the door I said to a friend “ I didn’t do anything they’re firing all the bargain leads” the manager said low “ no talking” WHAT ?!
It was designed to make us look bad.
THAT’S why we despise the company. That’s why we blame the managers. They treated us that way. We worked hard for the company and they humiliated us.
The SM and AM had nicknames for all of us and I even caught them using them. It all goes back to who the person who hired these disgusting unprofessional losers. And it's a reflection on them.
Not that they care but hopefully whoever reads this knows this when they go looking for a new job.

I worked at the Flagship store in NJ that had it's thread erased. Hey? They can't handle the truth. They escorted me out like I was a criminal after 20 years + of working there. It was humiliating. Everyone just watched and looked away.
Escorting people out is really low, even for B/N. They treat you like you just shoplifted.
This is why people have unions, so the can't treat you like shlt.
The sniveling way they waiting until the employees came in, fired them, then escorted them out like they did something wrong was demeaning. The store manager said to a fellow bookseller after escorting the magazine lead out “ Jesus , I thought he was gonna cry”.
My store manager is so fake, I never trust anything she says, but I play the game. And we laugh at the sickening butt kissing when the regional manager and corp visits. I try to listen in to hear the lies.
I don’t keep in touch . They all stopped talking to me. Guilt over knowing about it & not warning me.
Does anyone still keep in touch with co-workers and managers? How do they treat you? What are they saying? Does anyone read the Barnes & Nobles Bookseller and Managers pages on Facebook?
Yeah, it was stupid decision all right.
Our longest serving booksellers were all fired. BN effed up by not seeing the big picture. These people not only knew so much about books, they were fixtures of our store. People who had been shopping there for years had made connections with those employees, & coming into the store was an experience of warmth & familiarity. It went beyond just buying books—people enjoyed coming in to browse & chat with friends.
Good job Riggio, and, now, you, Daunt. Just as long as your pockets are filled, it’s all good, right?
Best thing that ever happened to me!
Got a much better job and didn’t shut down during this pandemic. If was still at BN, would’ve been out of work for months !
Still miss them in our store. Hasn’t been as efficient since.
Down with BN, Daunt, Riggio. It is time BN folds for good. THEY DESERVE TO ALL BE FIRED AND SHUT DOWN! Just anger and hatred towards BN.
And that’s saying something!
